The boat is a 1984, and the engine is an ultra low hour 1990.
The boat is located in Santa Barbara, but I will be in HAVI this weekend. (Thanks for catching that, I added the location to the post.)
Thanks - Rob

Hi Rob, you might want to look at the "165 hp" Merc. No such animal. Most likely it's a 150 hp. Good luck with the sale.:)

It is a XR2 150 Hp Merc and says 150 on the cover. Back in the day however, it was quite the hot bass boat motor. To beat the other 150's to the best fishing holes at the start of the tournament, Merc tuned the XR2 up to 165HP, but they still put 150 on the cover for classification purposes. This is well documented in the literature of the day and I even recall a Trailer Boat article comparing the XR2 to the 175. They said the XR2 was almost as fast as the 175 when installed on the same boat. (off buy something like 1 MPH on the top end.)
I was just trying to alert potential buyers (not familiar with that bit of trivia) that they were getting a little better than a stock 150. Thought it might be of interest in these HP consious days. However calling it a Merc 150 (w/165hp) would probably be more accurate as you suggest.
Thanks for the interest (and free bump)!
