Need Help finding Statistical Data

I have been googling and what not for over an hour now and have come up with jack sh*t.
I need to know how many semi trucks there are currently in United States and also how many Freight companies there are in the United States.
Would the US highway commission or whatever the hell they are called be able to provide me with this type of data?

It sounds lame, but I remember seeing a special on the History channel about Semi's in America. Check the History channel website maybe?
