I know its not a jet but it looks like a 57 Chevy car, has the fins and all. Does anyone know anything about these boats?

I'd really like to see a picture of it. Those old classics are great boats and for a few hundred now, a couple of thou for restoration, you might even make some money on it.......unlike a jet boat :D

They are beautiful and as fun to drive as my old 1959 Cadillac. Granted my 59 does not perform or drive as nice as a new cadillac, but it's fun on a different level. A newer Cadillac will be noticed by some, but my 59 stops traffic. Buy that classic if you can see yourself taking it out and getting that kind of attention, some good and some bad.:D
I see the market going up on this classic glass....soon.
There is a website called fiberglassics (http://www.fiberglassics.com/) Check it out

not big enough for a BBC, but a jet...yep.
There's a guy on fiberglassics that has a Glass Magic and has done a coversion using a sea doo, or some similar combo, engine and jet into his boat. It's very cool. I hang out over on that site too and am always looking for something that catches my eye, this deal did. I like the lines of the hull and the pump set-up is a great idea and super easy to do too. Be real nice with a later 4 stroke engine out of a PWC.
here's a few shots...
I didn't know anyone over here on HB liked this old crap too, 'cept for Cas. lol He's old and I've found out over the last few years has almost the same taste, or lack of, as I have. ;)

And people talk about how good the drugs were in the 60's. What the hell were they on in the 50's to come up with this boat?...I do like it though.:)

In 1961 my father in law (25 at the time) went to the local boat dealer to buy a GlassPar boat. He drove away with a 16' Performer that had a 75 hp Evinrude on it. I believe this was in Bellflower Ca. @ Wieman Marine and it was Rogers dad who sold him this custom boat. I'm not sure if he did the lay ups but these were his molds. From reading other postings it sounds like Shuster may have laid these up. His boat was like the turquiose one, it was still making river trips into the mid 90's. Maybe others could add to this bit of history.

In-between the time Schuster worked at powercat and when he started Tahiti, he was Performer boats. I don't know if he bought an existing company or started performer, but I saw one on craigslist a few weeks ago that was advertised as a Performer by Schuster. :)

My dad used to have an old boat like this, with the big fins on the back complete with taillights!! I wanted to paint it black with a batman logo, but it ended up being something for my sister to tool around in and got painted pink. It was a neat little boat too!!

Thanks Old Rigger, I was hoping you would come back with some more details. Did Weiman Marine just sell these for Schuster ? I do recall a Weiman Marine center cap on the steering wheel/ may have been a dealer thing.

Well now you're in a time frame that I just don't know about with Mr. Weiman. His shop, before he sold his own line of boats, was a dealership. He sold English motorcycles and boats. I remember Roger telling me before glass boats, he sold wood boats too, but I really don't know all the brands he carried.
Schuster, I'm guessing, may have bought out Performer because that name goes back pretty far. When he started Tahiti, the name was only chosen by the fact he bought the emblems from someone else that was going to start a boat company and it never got off the ground. I have no idea what the boat looked like. Also, at Powercat where Schuster worked, they offered a model named 'Tahiti', and come to think of it, they offered a 'Hawaiian' too, both used by Dick later on.
If I get a chance, I'll call Roger sometime this week and see if I can't get some of the blanks filled in. Shoot, maybe I'll go knock on Dicks door and see if he's still around. Last I heard he was still alive, splitting time between his house in Huntington Harbor and Palm Springs. :)
