Can a stock 400 block be stroked to a 434?
I was looking into building a 434 and came across a site that said the 434 couldn't be done with a stock block. Other sites didn't mention this... so what is it? Can you only build this motor out of an aftermarket block or what?

it can be done, but i think you run into cam to rod clearence issues and will need a cam with a smaller base circle. why a 434, a 406, 410 or 415sbc are wicked little motors. i have a 406ci donovan in 72 chevy c10 pickup with 11to1 comp and that thing friggin flys.

Not set in stone on a 434, just getting all the info on my options.
Any problems with the 420 stroker?

i think a dart block requires a small base cirlcle cam for a 4" stroke crank so your stock block will require that and probably alot of clearincing. on my donovan i went with a stock stroke crank 3.75 and a 4.155 bore this thing is pushin about 600 on pump gas and i have taken it over 8000 rpm, to say the least in screams and comes on like a light switch around 3800 rpm's.

You will run a small base circle cam in any 434, it just won't work any other way. Yes I have a block or two also. TIMINATOR
