Nice timing on this thread for me. :D I'm starting my lessons next week. Has anyone flown out of Compton? I've looked at Fullerton and Chino. Compton is the closest airport to my business. Any info would be appreciated.

I am assuming private? and are you looking for info on the written? oral? Probably both.
I don't know of online. AOPA is a great resource, as you can search FAR/AIM instead of thumb-through.
I just did my IFR close to a year ago. The biggies then, for oral ?s, were (still) airspace and CFIT.
Lots of people still blowing into airspace that they are not cleared for. Especially VFR. GPS allows for so much direct flight, that lots of people forget about C & B airspace(s).
CFIT (Controlled Flight Into Terrain) is more of an IFR deal, but more than 80% is VFR pilots. The examiner that I went to was real big on CFIT.
So, know your airspace limitations, know how to read charts and where to find the symbol legends. I got the King Checkride DVD for both the Private and IFR, and those really helped.

Compton is a very small airport. Uncontrolled air space that butts up against Hawthorne's air space. You will end up at others for your touch and goes and landing work. Compton is a full stop airport. I would suggest Hawthorne if you are close to Compton. If you need a School/instructor I know a great one that works out of Hawthorne and Long Beach. I did all of mine out of Long Beach. If you want to do a introductory flight with him let me know. The oldest planes they have are 2005. Make sure to do your training in a G1000. Good luck with your license it takes commitment and time, but the pay off is huge.
