This seems to be the time to find out things, even though boat was covered, but still outside Rain and water still made to the floor. The guy that did the floor last, Had made some mistakes,It true, there is alot of shiity damage under the sub.
What alot of people do is replace the sub top and thats fine,But take a couple steps further. If you dont overkill the resin ON THE BOTTOM OR BELLY OF THE NEW PIECE OF SUBTOP, you will be doing it again. THe bottom should have the most, Because thats where all the moisture is .Fit the piece first,Flip it ,glass it , then next day slam it in.
After doing this, I sure do like the Idea of being able to remove the sub top For furter inspections. What do you think of completely glassing the subtop piece,as one,Glassing new stringers just for screwing new subtop to. Not glassing over new sub, and existing fiberglass.
This all started from changing 1 stereo cable.. So I`m pimpin it.
Anybody ever gone with removable subtop....? Thanks randy

Just dont run a sub floor:D But seriously I would make the floor easily removable so you could take it out to dry after every few lake trips and when it is in storage.

If you do a search here on the boards for ( Couple little projects) by Squirtcha? you will see how we did mine. He had some spare plywood that we glassed and it works well. He installed to peices of angle aluminum one on each side. Drilled and tapped the angle mounted the floor with countersunk stringer washers, That was the mounting for the rear of the floor. We used the seat mounts in the front to hold down the front of the floor. It works well and easy to remove, however to put back in takes some patience to align. Dan can fill you in on that one.
If you need any help let me know, I can bring the boat by so you can have a look. I have Monday's and Tuesday's off. If so let me know what your plans are so I can wear the right clothes. Fiberglass will make you ITCH for day's

Looks nice randy;) Question, did you glass the floor in????????????? That provides structure to that hull!!!!!!!

boatgonewild
03-17-2007, 08:32 PM
No mike I didnt, I glassed it as one piece so I can remove to dry it out. I thought having the bottom in glass would gave alot of support for the bottom. Is being able to get in there, outway the structure change, It is right there at that stage if I decide to glass it ,no big deal ,just big ithe....

Being that you dont have full stringers, i think that sub-floor was used to provide stability to the boat. Did you have to cut or grind to get the floor out when you first started?

Form the looks of his 1st picture and his heading it was cut out.

Don't skimp on the glass... I can tell you from Experience, Saguaro will tweak that hull till she snaps. Glass it in with fiber glass mat and resin.
I've hit wakes that made me think the hull was going to snap in half. I have a full stringer.
