I just bought a 72 Rayson 18' [17'11''] ski race boat :D
it was claimed to go 150 mph with the removed 1200hp blown hemi in place
the guy I bought the boat and custom dual axle trailer from
wanted only the motor :( as he has a 70 cuda and
hemi powered cuda's even clones are worth an amazing amounts
anyway I now have a complete boat minus the motor and trans
has SS areoquip lines, v-drive water cooled , foot controled trim, tanks and pumps shafts prop ect
just needs your pick of power
or
I have a 300 hp north star caddy motor 4 valve DOHC all alloy
but no idea how hard that would be to get to work in this boat
turbos and/or NOX COULD DOUBLE THAT POWER :D
so any one know the value of this v-drive race/ski boat ?
or want to buy or trade something for one?
pictures to follow after I get the boat home and shined up

well I said claimed mph
but a 426 built hemi with a blower should get up over a 120 in the 1/4
in a rayson craft 18
so a 30mph extra top speed is not that unreal :D
I have seen the boat and will get it home saturday :D
look for pic's on sunday late as it does need a clean and shine
I do believe this is a full race boat in very good shape
as it has all the right extras like SS braided lines
water cooled V=drive and shaft and looks pro built

THINKING ABOUT PUTTING A NORTHSTAR IN THERE
mostly because I have 3 extra N* motors
and light weight and hi revs would work
but no idea if thats a pratical idea or parts are made to do that
did hear of a boat/northstar CPU unit
any one seen a north star in a boat ?
one odd thing to me was
the hemi used a B&M hydro stick trans
basicly an auto with direct drive and no gears
just F, N,and R and a locked gutted tork converter
but that set stayed with the hemi and went in the cuda with it
wonder if a 700 gm tran would live and bolt to the N*?
that would save the cost of a custom flywheel and clutch + gear box

you could use a cpu and wireing kit for a sand rail set up, there sealed and set up to take the beating you could also derect drive it with an in out box too.

while I have little ski/drag boat or flatie knowlage
I grew up in a boat yard and livedaboard for many years
so I know boats in general
this rayson is in very very good shape for a 72
remember 72 is before the oil price jump
back when strong over built boats were the rule
paint fade on deck is it's only real problem
paint on the sides and bottom is very good [metal flake]
glass and stringers are as new NOT ROT or stress cracks at all in hull
and everything moves freely in drive train
if anyone wants a rayson to repower this boat can be yours for a reasonable
but low offer
