Lake Ming This Weekend

First 2007 race is the Tom Papp Memorial Season Opener,
March 17 & 18 , Lake Ming, Bakersfield
The National Jet Boat Association runs it's races at Lake Ming, in Bakersfield, California. Qualifying runs take place on Saturday morning and continue through the afternoon. Elimination rounds and finals are run on Sunday. You can hear the engines beginning to be fired/ warmed up at 8am on both days.
If you have never been to Boat Drags, you are definitely in for a treat. Unlike our automotive counterparts the entire Pit Area is open for access by everyone. Feel free to come up and talk with your favorite Racers and Teams.
Admission: Saturday = $12.00, Sunday = $15.00...
(12 and under are free)
RV Fee = $50 Pass from NJBA and $35 camping fee to Kern County (Payable to NJBA)

I went to watch my buddies cousin Greg Shoemaker race at Lake Ming in the early 80's. I know Greg has a shop in Corona and writes for H.B. Is he still involved in racing somehow.:)

........Part of the positive draw of the NJBA races is that they are not inundated with corporate overkill........corporate banners,VIP seating etc..........It is very well run, great safety team.........Not taking anything away from IHBA, SDBA etc...........It is nice to still have an organization to race within, that has maintained the grassroots feel of how it all began..........

I was with greg today at Ming helping a mutual friend out break his cherry, tried to get him to come out of retirement today and he just laughed, I bet you will see more of him at the races helping a few select out. the only racing I belive he does now is on the river in a SLOW jet boat jk

My buddy who drives a silver/gray/orange hydro in the 8 second class broke :mad: Sat. PM and went home so now I can root for Cale helping on Big Red one. Wish I had gone to watch. Can't wait until next month here in PHX.

We lost first round :mad: don't quite have a handle on the tune up for the new motor yet.
