Here comes Summer, and from past experience, I wan't to be better prepared for the "***boater's" that need new power!
I am currently building two fully polished Whipple efi motor's for "stock". One 848 and one 948. I anticipate them to be completed no later than the end of May.
I also have a few polished 200ax kits with and without MOAC i/c's if you need them for your own package. I would not wait until Summer for them. Also, currently taking orders for the Whipple W305AX SC.

We are certainly trying our best
I know Ana tried to get you guys on my houseboat share but the dates did not work for the group. I have it up for sale if you know of anyone that might be interested.

Wow, every one of those engines are just works of art. It's almost a shame to bury them in an engine compartment. :D :D :D

C'mon now, give me a little more credit than that. I'm sure I've posted a few more nice things in my tenure here, probably back when I was just a newbie and didn't have an image to uphold. :D
Oh, and if you make them nicer, you're going to end up in the coffee table business because nobody will want to have them out of sight so they'll just put them in the living room. I know I would. ;)

That is funny that you mention the coffee table thing,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I have thought about that before. I think Eickert used to offer an engine coffee table? Seriously. It was cool.

I saw a deal on Speed a long time ago and one of the Indy guys had an engine coffee table in his basement trophy/tv/bar/game room. I think it was an Unser. Was a real, ready to run Indy car engine that they had fogged for storage and put in a glass case... They asked him how much the "table" was worth and he just laughed. :D :D :D

what kinda drive would I need for your 848 motor? I have a 525 with an xr drive, can the xr hold up to the power? Would it be better to put a whipple on the 525 or change to your 700 or 848 and sell the 525? Just kicken it around but you never know. What would the 525 be worth (has 100 hours on it)?
thanx Tim

Tim,
The XR and Beefed up XR drive are the weekest link with any combination. I have seen stock drives last a long time with 800+ HP, but the key is to take care of it and service it often. I would either beef up that drive a little and do the Whipple upgrade(I am doing two as we speak) or sell the 525 and put the money toward the 848. You could probably pull approx $15K for your 525 complete. Maybe more, maybe less. We could beef up your XR or sell it and go with an aftermarket XR. The price difference for the Whipple/525 conversion vs the TPI 848 efi and selling/trading in the 525 is not that far off. You might be surprised.

I like the little wimpy one in the upper left the best. Plus it looks purdy.

Gary, do you see much change in the components when you have torn down one of your motors? Meaning, the early "performance" builds were usually based on everyone looking for good, used "seasoned" blocks, heads, cranks. Everyone wanted pre-used components that had been hot/cold/hot/cold to stabilize the metal(s). Supposedly made for more consitant running clearances.
Especially with dissimilar metals (alum heads / iron blocks) do you see any "drastic" changes in clearances after everything stabilizes?
I would guess that components have come leaps and bounds since the '80s and the metal recipies have vastly improved, so it may be a moot point.
Just curious.

That "little wimpy 600 kicks but in your Schiada"!
Also, with regard to the motor's/tear down specs. Nothing out of the ordinary noted(unless someone overheated it or something:mad: ). From the 848hp on down, these motor's are fairly conservative IMO. People just need to service them often and keep them clean, that's it.:D

Let me know. I will do everything I can to accomodate you and Mama. If it means anything,,,, All of my customers wives love these motors and the Whipple upgrades. They all expected some super top fuel loud obnoxious thing, and they ended up with something that is VERY versatile, fast, and relatively quiet in comparison to what they had before. You will probably need a new limit on your gas card though:D It's a win win:D

I am very pleased with their performance. They seem to exceed what the customer expects,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,which is always nice:D
Hey Marc, If your looking,,,,,,,,,,this is the motor I think you should have. This is one of the last three I have scheduled to build in 07. I still have one more 848/948 and a special new "prototype" 748 efi:D that will be done in the fall and that will be it for motors in 07.

Here are some shots that a new customer should never have to see after a purchase:D , but I thought they would spark interest. The bottom of the motor is just as clean as the top(if not cleaner). You will also notice Dart's new two piece adjustable and patented guide plates for PERFECT valve train alignment. I also use Dart "extra" stud kits in the valley to ensure an excellent head gasket seal.

Sweet lookin motor. Thats a 200AX with a shorter snout right? That way the blower belt is on the inside of the accessory belts?

TPI

Exactly,
It really shortens up the install, so the customer does not have to move their back seat or cut off the front of their hatch,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,it looks cool too:D

Guys,
The pictured 848 is in Havasu now at Absolute Speed and Marine for viewing. Also, I am finishing up another 848 with a MOAC intercooler, and its also polished. I am actually going to run some tests on this motor and break it in myself in my own boat(Howard 28 Bullet). I will be selling it when I am finished. It will be serviced and ready to install with the full warranty.

Beautiful Motor @ Absolute.I see it almost daily.Should move pretty quick with all the baller traffic through Absolute on a daily basis.
In fact i think Brian had some interest in the last couple of days.
Best of luck to you moving these motors, anyone should be proud to have 1 or 2 in thier boat.

I am currently running an 848 in my Howard 28 Bullet. It will be sold as a "demo". Its fully polished and has an upgraded MOAC intercooler. Serious inquiries only,,,,,,, please PM me or email gary@tpboats.com for pricing. I have not come up with a number yet,,,,,,,but we can work something out. It will be serviced, under warranty, and detailed upon delivery. I will take a deposit to "hold" this motor if your boat is still under construction or if you would like to wait until after Summer for the balance to be paid in full. We will be out in Havasu in a few weeks with it......................."fishing":D
Trust me,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,its nice.
Thanks Gary
