how important is it to have equal length lines from tank to a tee when drawing from both tanks?

Most of us run equal lengths. I don't know how important it is but, like others, I run Stainless braided lines. They aren't cheap so, I only wanted to do them once and do them right. So, I ran equal lengths.
I don't think they will ever draw completely equal, so put a valve on each line coming from the tank and when one goes empty, close that valve and draw from the other tank...:D

what valves do you put in the lines?

Ball valves.
Yeah, I would assume you could use any type of valves but, a ball valve would be the best for the application...:D

No, they'll be fine. As long as they are properly installed they won't leak...:D

My hoses are different lengths and i havent had a problem with getting fuel. The water seperator if on the passenger side so that tank draws a little faster then the drivers tank. I run them both together.

My last setup I ran was dual tanks, equal lines into a Perma cool filter/water seperator then one line to the fuel pump ect...
I had to use earls ball valves to control the rate of each tank so they would draw equally.
Worked great once you have the system balanced.
I am using braided #8 lines for fuel.
If you are interested in the ball valves I had let me know there in great shape and are the stainless high $ ones from Earls Fittings

here is a pic of those valves I used
I looked back at my slips and they were $25.39 each
If they will work for you I will sell them for $35 plus shipping they are in like new condition and have the right seals in them to be used with fuel.

the condor came with an electric tank switch. The system has worked very well. You'll never equalize the hose friction and fluid levels on a moving platform. It could work enough..but what about that day? You know the one.

I here you on the electronic switcher I just put one in but its because I am now using two different octane fuels
Plus that valve will cost you about $330:sqeyes:
I ended up just closing one valve on that original setup just slightly and it worked great last year, I just switched to the electric valve and am sold on it!
