Ok peoples, how fun would it be to get together the 13, 14, and 15th of July. I originally wanted to see how many miller owners we could get out there but I think we should just get everybody together on that weekend and live it up.

The Schmucks the run the Avi are about as schizophrenic as they come. For the better part of a year they told us that they couldn't do anything for us after we had been there four years prior and effectively filled their hotel and emptied their bar the last two years. The statement from the Sales Manager was something to the effect of "we're too busy during the summer to justify reduced rates for group bookings". This was one of the contributing factors to the demise of the CBBB. Then a couple weeks before our usual August date, a woman calls from the Avi wanting to know if we were still going to be attending. Aparently they go through group sales managers like most folks do underwear. So when the guard changed again, the new sales manager probably looked at the previous year's booking trends and started calling around. I'm pretty sure this is how roostwear got the deal he did for his shindig up there. Whether the Avi knew it or not, they had come to realize sizeable repeat business from the CBBB, but after they f'd us around, they won't see another dime from me, or any of my friends as a result of their actions. River based businesses that aren't attentive to the needs of boaters don't get my $$ period. This is especially true when they never went out of their way to do anything for a group that brought in over 100 boats it's last year. Any idiot can do the math on how many people/rooms that equates to, and the subsequent spending in the bars and casino that they lost out on.
Good luck with your regatta, good luck with the Avi; but be careful. Odds are that there will be a different sales manager there between when you book and when you show up. Don't expect any concessions from them, and if they promise them to you, get it in writing as part of the booking agreement YOU will be on the hook for. That's right, if someone from your group starts acting like a jackoff, expect a phone call. Some bozo shows up on Thursday night and starts talking about how he has an arrangement to park his boat on the grass, expect a phone call. You're on the hook for the behavior of your guests, whether you personally know them or not.
And one more small little tidbit of information you might want to think about. All those jetskis running around in front of the hotel... if one of em runs into a boat that is at YOUR regatta, you'll be named in the subsequent lawsuit. The collision or subsequent lawsuit may never happen; but if it does are you prepared to pay for an attorney?
I'm not trying to piss in your wheaties (though I've done a good job of it), but these are all things that you need to be aware of and think about. Trust me, I like the idea of a classic boat get together, hence the Classic Boat Beach Bash. But after putting them on for a while, your eyes are opened to the risks you're taking. I would hate to see anyone get burned or suffer financial hardship because they were trying to put together a weekend of fun for fellow enthusiasts, and that's why we've stopped. You bring up some very good valid points I hadn't thought about. Maybe I shouldn't look into group rates nor call it a regatta as then I wont have any financial liability. I was just looking to get some miller owners together for a weekend to show off our boats and do some water skiing. I suppose we could always use needles as a home base, thats a good section of river as well and the hotels in town wont break the bank.
I suppose financial liability enters the equation once a name is labeled to it, as in CBBB, then the beast has a head. However, if a bunch of like minded people show up at the same time at the river for some fun then there is no liability right? I suppose I shouldn't have called it a regatta, I figured it would be a BYOB (Bring your own boat), Bring your own booze, and lets BBQ and get sun burned kind of thing.... Im open for more ideas from anyone.

I agree. CBBB was a blast and i wish there was more. But as for this event. Dont put a name on it. Just post what hotel you are stayin at and what dates, and where to meet on the water and im sure that people will show up.

Yes, Tyson & Chris always did a great job on the CBBB. I miss the "Bash" as well. Especially the prizes, hehe.

Room Rates at the AVI are 119, 129, and 49 for the 13th, 14th, and 15th of July. According to the AVI they say you cannot use the beach unless you are a guest. Anyone have any imput on this? I've driven from needles to the Avi in my boat for breakfast a couple of times and wasn't given a hard time. Any ideas?

Any one ever stay there ? And is it any good ? I know its hot , but I usually have stayed at the Riverside or up at Lake Mohave Resort for RV camping at that time of the year and it wasnt to bad . Any thoughts ?

I have free room and board in Needles California. (I used to live there) However, the Avi is very nice. Its on par with the Riverside. I really like the beach they have. Thats the coolest part, that way we can display all of our boats in a line.

Just to clarify (not that it really matters I guess), I didn't make any deal with Avi for FC. It really was a matter of luck.... I put on FC before and after the high season.... when they were discounting to get people in. I didn't hold FC at Avi, so it really was just a matter of convenience for people to stay and launch there, then head up river to FC. My take on it? Be careful having an "event" on the water, and dealing with the Indians.

Yes, I am working feverishly at my boat to get it ready for the river. I will be there. It's already worked out with work, so its one weekend I know for sure I'll be there. I was thinking about getting a head count two weeks or so before the ordeal. Im not going to name it, I figured it would be a show up and have fun kind of thing. That way there is no liability. Liability issues were brought up so I didn't check in to see if Avi would offer a group rate. I suppose worse comes to worse we could tent camp in the parking lot?? lol

JackSmith is free untill May then I think it's 10 bucks. We will probably stay in Laughlin, and launch at Big Bend and boat down to the Avi. Big Bend is always a posability, nice big sandy beach!

Doug: We just went on the Avi resort and casino web page and reserved a room, no calling needed. We also compared prices with Treavelosity and Expedia, but it was less expensive to go directly with The Avi, $108.00 a night. :) (rivertard).

Heres the last pic I took. I just finished putting the rest of the mat and fiberglassing in the build ups for the stringer mount throttle and the seats. The carpet should be here soon. Anyone close by willing to lend me a hand putting the carpet in? I am a little apprehensive about screwing up 250 bucks worth of carpet. Ill buy anyone who comes over to help some dinner and a couple of beers. I have all the tooling I need and materials as well. Just need some guidance.

Now..Now Nate, I assure you My boat is 100% stock. Just a plain old 440 with a rise Intake, Holly Carb, Stock distributor, stock coil,Headers, thats it. Nothing fancy inside and rest assure I am all stock inside, I wouldnt lie about that. :idea:

I am limited as well, I am trying to buy a house and I have other bills as well. I really cant afford the pump rebuild BUT Tom gave me a great deal on getting it fixed and I am going to just work as much overtime as I can too pay for it. So instead of dumping $360 for the weekend at Big River that can go towards the pump rebuild. In all honesty my boat is Soooooo Slow...According to Ebay all Jet boats do 100 mph, mine only goes maybe 45mph tops.:o

we may try to come over especially if there is gonna be a good turnout.. We really enjoyed the cbbb deal. We will stay at the AVI.
BTW the last few times i launched at the AVI they made us show a room key.
Its going to be a big turnout, so far 22 people and I would say alot of them have rooms already.

I think thats a great idea, we all hang out for a bit in front of AVI on the beach, gather the posse for a bit maybe an hour or so, than drag the Klan to Lazzy Harry's for lunch and hell up and down the river for a day. Why not? As soon as we get there I wana launch and place my boat on the beach in front of AVI and wait till we get the majority of the Friday people there. On saturday we can meet out front again and do it all over.

Just want to remind everyone to bring their rubber bumpers, cushions, whatever you want to call them so we can all tie off in some coves together, this is going to be alot of boats and I am going to say when all said and done we get 18 boats out there in the posse running together. The list is like at 22, we always have cancells but man I am guessing we will have good odds and a good turnout for this event. Most people have booked rooms already.

a couple of guys from socaljetboats.com are asking about the avi launch ramp....can you launch there if youre not a guest? if not, is there a ramp local to the avi they can use?

You "used" to be able to pay for a beach/launch pass. I don't know if that is still the case. There aren't really any other ramps super close by, but there are ramps that are to the north and south that are public, it just depends on how far you want to drive.

If it was me I would maybe use a nice looking jet boat, no brand in particular( typical large motor, headers) and have it with a sun in the back ground, maybe beached on a beach with some huts behind it( like at AVI). Have say, two boats both facing one another on an angel? A old school boat and something new or maybe a pickel? Just a nice basic design with the words above it " Jet Boat Bash 2007" Laughlin NV, July 13th - 15th. Dont forsay use anything that says AVI but more or less a generic AVI approach :)
You can have just on the front of the shirt over the pocket, " Jet boat bash 2007" Laughlin NV. This way you are no offending anyones copyrights?
