I'm toying with the idea of selling my '96 Dodge Viper but wanted to see if there was any interest in it first. It's got 23,000 miles and 2 tops (soft and hard). $29,000 or best offer

Oh, I'm sorry, people are not allowed to buy and sell items for some kind of a profit. If you care to read what my business is, (posted in another thread) I sell vehicles WHOLESALE. That means that if I were to get this vehicle I would turn it in a day or two to a dealer who will sell it retail. I usually make MUCH less than what you think on each transaction, I just do it in volume.
Not that I have to defend myself here, I was merely stating what I was willing to pay for a vehicle. It seems like he was asking for any offers to see what exactly is out there since the second post was only 8 hours after the original post.
By the way, I didn't see you making an offer.

Funny.....I thought it was only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. The line sure doesn't seem very long.

I'd hate for one of two offers in this thread to go unnoticed. :jawdrop:

You know, maybe if these guys got together and pooled their money, they could go in on the car together and then they'd all be happy. Nah, that wouldn't be any fun. :) :)

March-April 2007 low Kelly Blue Book is $26,450. So I am actually offering you a price over low Blue Book. No reason to get offended. Just a business deal to me.

I guess it should have said "Make offer , but with caution".
Or maybe just a firm price instead of any offers.

No shit :D ... Or it should've read "Make offer only if you intend to drive it,not to resell it"....
Personally, I think that KBB is a joke.... The car is only worth what someone is willing to spend..
Nice Viper by the way...

I couldn't agree with you more. If everyone did business as to where the market was dictated simply by what people wanted to spend on cars, then Kelly Blue Book would not be necessary. Unfortunately, since the majority of people by their vehicle with credit, there has to be a guideline as to what a car can be liquidated for if a consumer does not meet the payments. This Blue Book figure is used by the banks to determine how much they are willing to lend a particular customer based on the Kelly Blue Book value. Certainly other condition apply and they are unique to every individual, BUT, the guidelines are always set to what a car's actual cash value in the market commands. That is why Kelly Blue Book exists.

I believe that TCD was using KBB as well. Maybe he had the slimey car salesman version though and just left that part out because it's top secret. :jawdrop: :jawdrop: :jawdrop:

Wow, what a combative group of sellers.
Had a friend who sold life insurance, a real bad-ass. He would say "Buy this ins., or you'll wish you had!"
Truthfully My wife and I are looking for a Viper right now, but I don't want to get my ass kicked if I make the wrong offer.

I'm sorry, I was using the Kelly Blue Book, not the slimy car salesman handbook. Not to mention you'd be hard pressed to find one on autotrader for under $35,000 with this kind of miles.
What the hell is this crap. Guy puts a post up to sell a car for a price figure of "around" or "between", 8 hours laters asks for offers.
TCD makes you an offer and you and a bunch of your "NORCAL" bros get your panties all bunched up.
The guy sells cars for a living, he has never made that a secret, in fact he has posted that he will help people by buying their cars.
I dont know what GRADS, or BRENDELLA do for a living, But you can dam well be assured they get paid for what they do.
Like some else said, dont state make an offer unless you elaborate and state make an offer within a $150.00 of what I asking.
TCD I would withdraw your "slimey" offer, a car this valuable and as in demand as it is Im sure he wont have a problem selling it!!

Price is pretty close to private party blue Book. (Tad high)
Looks like a nice car it will be intresting to see how fast it sells. Market is pretty bad on V8 cars right now and your gonna have to find the right buyer that wants an 11 year old car.
I have always wanted the GTS coupe:)

Then why don't you just put it in the trader? I'm not sure the "You buy this f*cking car at this f*cking price or I'll break your f*cking neck" selling style will work here. Hey, maybe I'm wrong but it doesn't seem to be working so far.

I always liked the lines on the first gen Vipers better than the new ones it may be a little overpriced but not much, If I were in the market right now I would definately take a look at it , it is a beautiful car!!

Looks nice, but honeslty seems overpriced. My buddy just bought a 93 with 19,000 miles on it (and it was immaculate) for $21,000.
I know yours is 3 years newer, but its still 11 years old!

so, does driving a car like this raise or lower the value???

Can we say 'new tires needed after this cruise around the parking lot???'

Then put it in the Autotrader and try to hold out for your inflated price. You asked for an offer and you got one, don't bitch just because you did not like the number. It is pretty much a "Buyers" market for most things these days if you have not figured that out yet. Maybe you NorCal folks think a bit different

It's only a buyers market if the seller has to get rid of it...If I don't get what I want to for it the car will go back to collecting dust in the garage.

Why do people get all butt-hurt if someone throws a low-ball offer? Damn, if you don't ask you don't know what they will take. Unless the ad says FIRM I say all offers are worth hearing.

Exactly, but apparently not in this case.

It's okay Ken...no big deal. If everyone read the original thread they'd see that I'm not real motivated to sell it. That's why I threw it up here and not autotrader and asked a premium for it. And yes that's me burning out in it...big deal.

Bumping your own thread 8 hours later with a "make an offer" post kind of points at desperation though. Just a little F.Y.I. ;)

Those vipers for the 1996 year are bringing more money than that, I would not take any less than $40,000.00 for the car. I may know someone who may want to buy it. I will call him and ask. Is the vehicle on any other sites besides this one? One last thing, bump this up, I love vipers.:D

I didn't put the car on any other sites because I wasn't 100% sure I wanted to sell it. Just kind of testing the waters first. I 've got too many cars and not enough time to drive them so I thought I'd possibly get rid of a few.

Now this is a real brainstorm...Its underpriced, but you got a buddy that wants one? Have you called your "buddy" and explained that you have found him a nice car and you just screwed him out of about 10k if he wants to buy it???
40K? How many crack heads want to drive Vipers?

I'd steer clear of the autotrader unless you want tons of guys with heavy accents throwing lo-ball offers and asking a lot of questions that would be obvious if they had read the add...
If I wanted to take a lo-ball offer I'd go to Carmax so I didn't have to deal with idiots.
That was my experience anyway.
I was trying to sell a Focus. By the logic of this post it should be highly desirable with its 4 banger and all:)

NO INTEREST AT ALL, but thanks for the bump of my post in back in March. Market has changed dramatically. Luxury items are becoming much harder to sell.
I used to buy 70 to 80 cars per month back then. I have now since changed the direction of my company and no longer actually buy the cars. I just facilitate the sale of about 400 to 500 cars/trucks per month. ;)
Good luck with the sale.
