Does anyone know of a way to program the ESCORT PASSPORT 8500 x50 so it doesn't alert the x band anymore. http://www.radarbusters.com/assets/images/products/escort/x-50_blue.gif

Yeah, I programmed mine right into the trash can and got a Valentine 1, then got tired of having to switch which car it was in and got another one. :D :D :D
I want to say, granted mine was an older one, that there was a NO-X setting on it. :)

Page 14 talks about a no-x mode. Let me see if I can find how to get it there.
Page 12 is the ez programming section.

There are 9 user-selectable options so you
can customize your 8500 X50 for your own
preferences. The buttons labeled CITY and
DIM are also used to enter the Program
Mode, REVIEW your current program
settings, and to CHANGE any settings as
desired. The words PROGRAM, REVIEW,
and CHANGE are located on the top of the
detector, and are highlighted in dark blue
graphics. Pages 14-16 explain each option in
more detail.
How to use EZ-Programming
To enter Program Mode, press and hold
both top buttons down for 2 seconds.
(The unit will beep twice, and will display
the word “Program”).
Then press the REVIEW button to review
the current settings. (You can either tap
the button to change from item to item, or
hold the button to scroll through the items).
Press the CHANGE button to change
any setting. (You can either tap the button
to change from setting to setting, or hold
the button to scroll through all the options).
To leave the Program Mode, simply wait
8 seconds without pressing any button.
(The unit will display Complete, beep 4
times, and return to normal operation).

*Factory Default Settings
To reset Passport to its original
factory settings, press and hold
the “CITY,” “DIM,” and “MUTE”
buttons while turning the power
on. Passport’s display will
provide a “Reset” message,
accompanied by an audible alert,
acknowledging the reset.

An example
For example, here is how you would turn
Passport’s AutoMute feature off.
1 Enter the Program Mode by holding
both the city and dim buttons down for
2 seconds. Passport will beep twice and
display Program.
2 Then hold the REVIEW button down.
Passport will scroll through the categories,
starting with Pilot Light (Pilot), then
Power-on sequence (PwrOn), then Signal
strength meter (Meter), and then
AutoMute (aMute).
3 Release the REVIEW button when
Passport shows the AutoMute item. Since
the factory setting is for AutoMute to be
on, Passport will display aMute ON.
(If you accidentally don't release the
Review button in time, and Passport goes
to the next category, hold the Review
button down again, and after Passport
scrolls through all categories, it will begin
again at the top of the list.)
4 Press the CHANGE button to change
from aMute ON to aMute OFF.
5 To complete the Programming, simply
wait 8 seconds without pressing any button.
Passport will display Complete, beep 4
times, and return to normal operation.

I am out if the loop on Radar Detectors. Why is the X band not needed anymore? I have an old one in my truck. Thanks:)

Jordy, the V1 is no longer king of the hill. The X50 as taken the lead. Check the reviews. I have been a radar detector fan for many years and I can tell you the X50 is a good unit. I have two of them.

The latest Escort is GPS enabled. This does not sound like a big deal but what it does is this. We all get false alarms every time we drive by a specific area and now you can hit a button on the detector the next time you are in this area and the GPS function will remember the location and give you no false alarms. I think this would be a great function.

Unless the next time there is a cop in that area..........with a radar gun....:D

Unless they changed it to pick up multiple radar threats, and let you know where they are, I'll stick with the V1. I had the Passport for alot of years and it would only let you know about the strongest signal. The V1 lets you know how many and where they are.
Case in point, I was heading up Estrella Mountain Parkway a while back, coming out of Estrella Mountain Ranch towards the 10 and the V1 started going crazy before I ever hit Buckeye Rd/whatever highway it is out there. Got up a couple miles further and it was jumping everywhere between 1 and 5 threats. Sure enough there were 5 motor cops off on the side of the road running radar and it was picking up everyone of their individual guns.
Going to Cali a few times, I've had one coming at me when one was also coming up behind me. It let me know where they both were as well. Gotta say that I'm pretty well sold on that feature, not that I ever speed of course. :D

The V1 is a good unit but they have not kept up on the technology. They used to be way ahead of the game and have fallen back some. The V1 is no longer worth its premium price tag...

There's really not a whole lot of difference between the X-50 and the V-1 pricewise in the whole scheme of things. :jawdrop:  :D

I personally would not trust any review from Radar Busters since they can't sell it so they make no money from it so its make no sense for them to push it....but that's just me.

Perhaps someone should update their website as well. Here is the reveiw page:
http://www.escortradar.com/reviews.htm
Most recent one is from '04???  :D
This is from the radarbusters site:
The testing also showed that the Bel RX65 and the Escort 8500 X50 performed as well, and in some cases better then the more expensive Valentine 1 radar detector.

V1 has no re-sellers, they only sell direct. The X50 won the radartest.com review which included the V1.
I picked up my X50s for $289 each. If you get the red LED it is cheaper.

The way I'm reading it the "Best overall performance" was the BEL Pro RX65. Escort seems to have picked up price/performance. ;)
Oh, and seeing how they spent about 2 times as much space picking the V1 to pieces, it would seem to me that they have some kind of an axe to grind, or at least they did back in July of '05. :D :D :D

Don't get me wrong, the V1 is a great unit and was always head and shoulders above the rest. I have always thought that they were the best. I was actually getting ready to buy two of them when I did a little research and found out that the Escort and Bel had caught up and surpassed it in performance. I just think that the X50 is a killer unit for a great price. Don't knock it til ya try it;)

I just bought my second V1, as my car was broken into and the only thing they took was my first V1. I think they are awsome and a great feature about them is that you can send them in for any new updats that they come out with. Just my .02.

Are there any legality issues regarding use of radar detectors in California and Arizona?

Only one I know of is that you can't have it mounted up under the rear-view mirror in AZ (probably the same in CA).....but it is just a warning from AZ DPS.....yes, I know from experience..... :D

Same in both states; just cannot impair view of road eg windshield mounted too high. But you can velcro it to the dash or visor clip it.

I would think that is ok since you can clip it to the sun visor. when I got pulled over by DPS all I got was a warning.....but it was a written warning that I guess now the State of AZ has on file.....

Hmm, never heard that, but I guess it's kind of common sense. Knock on wood, I've never been stopped with my V1. Had a few wasting of a finite resource meetings back when I had the Passport. :D
