Are you finally going to do something with that pontoon? Whatever drive you pick, just don't forget room for the BBQ.

Be wicked to see a pontoon with a jet on each one!!

I saw one a couple of weeks ago with a 300X on it.
We have a 24' pontoon with a 4cyl merc with an alpha set up. If the weight is not in the correct spot, as it moves over the wakes, waves it will pull the drive out of the water and the prop will slip.
I think it would be difficult to get the intake low enough to ensure it has good water flow.
On the other hand, If you built a center sponson to house the intake, pump and a small block, it could potentialy all fit below the deck line of the boat and give you extra room. Could be kinda cool.

Doesn't someone make outboard jets? I swear I have seen a jet/impeller type outboard with out any external props.

Yes, we run them on the river for fishing.

my thoughts exactly. the center would definatly need to be lowered with lets say a motor well area. doing so i think it could act as a third pontoon and help with lift. one of my biggest concerns is thrust. will a AA impellor push a 24' pontoon to a decent cruise speed. maybe 35 MPH.
plus i can help to think about the cool factor. ever see a rooster tail off the back of a pontoon boat? how cool would that be? :D

Our 24' with 140HP and the drive cuts arcoss the water at a blistering 25MPH, 27 down hill.
The one with the 300x only ran 45ish. The newer tri toons and others make decent speed for what they are. We talked to a guy with a newer 24' with a 4.3 merc and I ran next to him around 40 or so. However, he spent 50K on a floating ice chest.
The rooster thing could be cool. Think about how much your jet slows with the tail up. Now imagine that on a hull not designed for speed or much forward momentum for that matter. What you could have is an almost stationary 200' fountain. Now the Jones' dont have that do they...

GUGS102 is really pickin up what im layin down here. "Mobile Bellagio"? oh yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhh.......:D as long as i can get that thing back up river on its own power, ill be golden.
Im thinking a solid cross section between the pontoons and make it somewhat of a tunnel hull, set the pump with a AA or even a AAA impeller, and bolt in a mild 454.

The deck on our is wood and would need some serious modification to make work. I'll see if I have a pic of the motor pod.
You might need a drive shaft set up. As it is ours sits low in the back and that's with just a 4cyl. Maybe you could hang the motor up a couple of inches higher and a foot or two forward to bring the CG further forward. The length of the drive shaft would also determine how low you could put the pump.
This could be kinda neat. 8* of wedge and a droop and you should have on hell of a water show, who cares if if won't move, you can tow it back up river.
It would not be a speed demon but I'd bet a AA would move it out just fine.

now thats just wrong there. when i said 35 MPH, i meant maximum speed. any faster and them things are just too scary.
right now the 24' pontoon is striped down to the rails. no deck yet so going aluminum would be a definate possibility. first off though would be designing the cross section. seems pretty simple to just use sheets straight across at a specific level and round it up toward the bow. something like the glade boats with two pontoons. (one on each side) maybe having the pump intake set a tad lower than the rest of it by a small pad section. then again a small "V" might be better for a bit of cutting rougher water.
hummm? this is definatly turning into an interesting project that should be fun. and if it actually works, even more fun. hey, atleast the wife said "go for it". :D

there we go. now if that had pontoons hangin on each side it would be perfect. or atleast a perfect rendition of what im thinking to build. :)

i helped a guy with a 32ft party barge all alum, we used a legend with diverter, small blk 406, he wanted just to go 15mph, at 23 mph it started to submarine, he is going to put a stock 350 in it now, can't use the power, diverter won't left the front to heavy, he is happy can take it anywhere, have picture but can't post???

jim, thats very interesting info for sure. sent you a pm with my email if you can send that pic. ive been told to use a jucuzzi pump instead of the berkely i planned on because apperantly the jucuzzi pumps flow a much high GPM. im told they can push a larger boat better, just not faster than a berkely pump. this is just what im tiold, i have no first hand knowledge of this. but its something to look into for sure. and the 350 is another good idea since it would save alot of weight. as long as it can move the 24' pontoon at a decent 15-20 even that would be cool.

Hey Rat, I seen one like that on Shawano lake a few years back. Sounded nice also.

That there is the dumbest ideas I have ever heard, Pissin on an electric fence is a close second.
