pops out of gear?

older omc with electric shift pops out of gear....we were told its the shifter..anybody know anything about this

ber win there, either you are losing power to drive or ground problem or shift switch is going bad, you have the shift wires going to drive make jumper wire apply power take boat for ride and see what happens if it does still happen then drive continuity spring is going bad and check shift wire is not shorting out by grounding out
