Geez, The big Fords are confusing.
Cammers, side-oilers, FE and wedges ?

Geez, The big Fords are confusing.
Cammers, side-oilers, FE and wedges ? Cammer is a SOHC 427. 657hp@7500rpm
427 Side Oiler has extra oil gallery that runs down the left side feeding more oil to the main and rod bearings.
FE is basically the block "Ford Engine" and is interchangeable with 332/352/360/361/390/406/410/427/428. within each engine their are GT, Cobra and SVO block as well.
See Bob, I told you I have been studying
:)
You now have some back up, a Chevy guy that respects and wants to learn and experiment with Fords.

jawdrop Wow, you learn fast.
Don't give Bob any more ammo.
He already has me thinking about building a high reving small block ford for my 1962 16' Rayson craft.

You now have some back up, a Chevy guy that respects and wants to learn and experiment with Fords. A little note here: The oil galley on the side is not an extra passage. The top passage is not funtional(except for the last year when they made a hydraulic motor), it was redesigned so that the oil would feed the mains and rods before the cam, whereas the top oiler feeds the cam before the mains!.. :) wink

What kind of FE? That's because they are OT's and are the same lenght and there is no spacer on one side to compensate for the offset from one side to the other, that's why they look crooked!.. wink

My Engine has a medium riser and does have the fcatory set up that is after it went to Holman- Moodey for some extra power. All the researce that I have done oth eengine says that it 'Ford/Edsel' is what's being abreviated by FE.?

AFter a little more sseacrch I came up with this( sorry about thte spelling on the last post I made.) The FE (as has been identified as Ford-Edsel) started out in 1958 as the 352 evolving to the 360, 390, 406 & 410. The 427 was introduced in March 1963 and the 390GT & 428 CJ (Cobra Jet) were introduced in April 1968. Big Iron........at 650lb the stock engines with cast iron intake and exhaust were a bit on the heavy side.

The Ford Interchange book I have says:
The FE is thought to be "Ford Edsel" but really all it meant was "Ford Engine".

Some say "Ford/Edsel" others say "Ford Engine" but if the 383" 410" 430" 462" "MEL"[Mercury/Edsel/Lincoln] engine family has anything in common then I go with "Ford/Edsel"
