My pops has a 17' Boston Whaler and he's looking to replace the old Johnson 70. This new Evinrude is supposed to be the $hit!!

I've sold quite a few propellers to E-Tec owners. Seems they race them with 15 X 34 pitch props on V-Hulls. I heard they won the 24 of Rouen, France, last year...
Seems they are really a TWO STROKE but are legal 2006 CLEAN....
BUT, I actually have no first hand knowledge of them, as I've never seen one run...
I heard or read, if you run two legal 2006 motors in a room, that there is less polution than if each engine ran in their own room...Example: Brand "X" 2006 motor in one room "X" amount of polution. E-Tec runs in another room, "Y" polution. Run them in the same room, the E-Tec eats the polution from Brand "X" and has less polution that "X plus Y"....
I hear the engine is computer controlled and as a result it is easy to trouble shoot....but hard to modify, which might be good!!!

I have seen them run, and they are quieter than any other 2 stroke I have ever seen. I asked a couple pro bass fishermen if they like them (they both had the 225 HOs), and they said they loved them. Better milage than old 2 strokes and the newer 4 strokes.
Software is easy to modify, Ron. ;)

an optimax mercury runs as good or better weighs less in similar displacement ..ie. 2.5 vs 2.5 or 3.0 vs 3.0. and cost about 2 grand less... my .02:sqeyes:

It also has more components to give you trouble, like an aircompressor and the belt that drives it. Break the belt, you're dead in the water. I believe he asked inparticular about an E-Tec, not a pop-timax ;)

Chris Bush was an Outboard racer....He was hurt badly in the 24 Hours of Rouen a few years back.....
He makes his living working on engines...
I talked to him, today, he says, "The E-Tec is a great engine." If you know anything about J. Christian Bush, what he said is ENOUGH SAID!!!! The motor is GOOD!
