-swac SWAC, there are a lot more people here that are way more experienced in hydro's than I am so I will not contribute to this but, a little more info on what type of hydro you are looking for and what you plan on doing with it(race, ski, river toy, blown motor, etc.), will help and I'm sure someone will step in and guide you in the right direction!...Good luck!..

Swac,
Sounds like you want a picklefork?
If you are looking for a "river toy".
I would look for a heavier hull, not a light weight lay-up.
Outboard steering is the way to go. If you plan on lots of horsepower and speed.
Some hydros have cable steering which is good.
Some have a rod or mechanical steering, Better.
A ski hydro will have more cockpit space then a drag hydro. They are a bit wider.
I know of a 19 ft. Cheyenne ski hydro. Here in Wash.
It needs a paint job. Its in primer right now.
Would make a great project. And it has never been set-up.

Swac,
Here's a photo of the Cheyenne.
Its an 81. And has never been in the water.
It has been bouncing around from owner to owner and no one has ever put it together.
Let me know if you are interested in more info.
Like I said, Its in primer now.

Sangster, I tried to PM you about the boat, but you are a popular guy. Your mailbox is full.
Just so I can dream, hit me with a number you want for your boat. I didn't know it was for sale or I would have asked about it.
Will you accept billet parts in trade? haha.
Entertain me,,
Thanks
Brian

I bought a 19 ft 74 Sanger ski hydro (medium hull) 2 years ago (4 seater, hot 468 Chev, dual 750's, inboard rod steering). Use it for skiing, hydro sliding, tubing and going fast. Turns ok when going slow, needs wider are when going fast.Use it on the delta, Folsom, CFW, Eagle Lake . Leave it in the water overnite (3 bilge pumps). Harly ever takes water over the sides. Have had a '68 Schida flat since '68 and love them both.
