try WD40, it turns the silicone into a goo once you get the thick part off. I really don't know if if will harm the powder coat though.

I've used lacquer thinner and it worked better than denatured alcohol and mineral spirits. I never did try WD-40. I would test it on a small spot first and dont let it sit to long. It did fine on gel coat and anodizing.

Pep Buys carries a "Gum" remover in a small spray can. Works awesome, won't hurt paint or gel. I've saved hours with this stuff.

That stuff is designed not to be soluble(Sp). I cut as much as I could with a cut off wheel and then forced it out. Wear a mask if you are cutting that stuff.

I've used Acetone in the past. And it will not harm powdercoat.

yeah, ive used a 4" cutting wheel on my angle grinder while the boat is flipped over and cut all around the intake 1/2" to 1" deep (till i can feel it hit metal) and then took a dremel and grinded away all of the putty in the bidlge area around the intake.......then wacked it several times with a rubber mallot, but it still wont give.
Just thought i'd ask if there was some mericle solvent that makes it vay-poo-rise.

Goad, judicous use of heat, from a propane torch or heat gun, will soften the adhesive enough to get it apart.

I have tried to heat up the intake with one of these:
http://nosheteria.com/Blowtorch.jpg
and after running the torch over it for about 10 minutes, the intake was still cold to the touch. I breifly tried putting the torch right on the putty, but it just cooked the fiberglass which at that point didnt seem like a good idea.
I really havent exhausted all efforts to get it out....I have some other ideas in mind which i have found on other older posts.

From site:

Glue/Adhesive Remover
Adhesive, glue, gum, grease, stickers, crayon off hard surfaces.
Is it sticky? Goo Gone cleans it!
We guarantee -- take 2 seconds, glue's gone:
Bumper stickers, dried-on tape, price stickers.
Chewing gum, grease, tar or motor oil.
Lipstick, mascara, blood.
Shoe polish, crayon and more.
Safe on carpets, upholstery, clothing, wood, cement, metal, glass, plastic and acrylic.
Just a few drops cleans it.
8 oz. bottle.
Me: Goo Gone, by ULINE is great stuff for removing silicone. It is citrus based, so it won't hurt anything. If it is in an area where you can spray it on, let it sit, and then return to remove it - it is much easier.

Are you sure you got the right stuff? The stuff should eat the silcone for lunch... just get a rag wet with it and wipe it on, come back in 15 mins and you should be able to just peel it right off.
was it # 08984?
they have a couple diffrent versions of it... One does not do shit and the other works wonders... I've used this stuff of thru hull fittings and outboards that thave been bonded to hulls with the shit that takes the gell with it when it comes off, and it works wonders.
