I'm tired of giving money to Cali. Should
I register the new boat non-res AZ?
I heard AZ is starting a tax like CA for non-res reg.
Whats the cost per year for AZ registration?
thanks:)

My 07 AZ tags were $259. It's not as cheap as it used to be but it's still cheaper than paying the Cali tax on my boat.

Yep just paid mine 259.00 AZ finally got on to the game us California peeps where doing, still cheaper though. In Ca you would be paying the unsucured property tax (Luxury tax) what a crock.

It depends on how long the boat is. I paid $259 for a 21 footer. I believe 22 feet and up is abot $100 or so more if my memory works correctly (probably doesn't). Call the Fish and Game and ask.

If the value of the boat is more than 25K, then it's a wash financially. IF you use it in Az the majority of the time though, they would like you register with them.

No new taxes or fees for AZ boat registration, other than the increase two years ago. All boat registrations went up. Resident and non-resident alike. But went a lot higher for non-residents. Mine more than doubled to $35.00, but nothing comapred to the $259.00 a non-resident would be paying for the same boat.
Here's the rates:
Watercraft Size Resident Fees Nonresident Fees
0 to 12 ft. $20 $100
12 ft. 1 in. to 16 ft. $22 $110
16 ft. 1 in to 20 ft. $30 $222
20 ft. 1 in to 26 ft. $35 $259
26 ft. 1 in to 39 ft. $39 $292
39 ft. 1 in to 64 ft. $44 $330
64 ft. 1 in and over $66 $495

I believe we paid $90, no sales tax when we bought the boat

Federal regulations require that you register your boat in the state of predominant use, that is 51%+ of the time. Sounds like you should register in NV which will certainly be cheaper than CA or AZ...

Even if you have a house in AZ you still pay non-resident fees, this is NOT illegal.
