I got to drive the new Shockwave Deck Boat on Saturday.
I found it to be comparable to the others but with a bit nicer price tag.
I know it's brand new - anyone have any feedback they'd like to share?
Thanks

I think Shockwave makes a great boat! I've been waiting for a while for this boat to come out. I don't remember reading anything here about one though, not sure how many they've sold so far.
If it drove good & priced nice, I'd be comfortable with the brand.
Good luck!

I was looking through my ***boat of the LA show the other day and was wondering this same question when I saw the picture of the SW deck. When SW was building it, there was a lot of talk here on the boards about it. Since it's actual debut, nothing has really been said. Has any of the numerous people who said they were going to buy one actually buy one? How does it do?

The boat pictured on the website is my buddies boat. He hasn't taken delivery of it yet, last I heard he didn't like the flat profile of the engine hatch. He wanted it re-done with headrest for the rear bench seat. He supposed to be picking it up towards the end of the month and it'll definitely be out at Havasu during the poker run weekend. Initital test results with the 525 seemed to be very fast, a lot quicker than my Conquest with the same motor.

Not yet, I talked to Bob today, still trying to hammer down some hard numbers... And I think you got me talked into the 525...
As far as colors go, I'm thinking a theme boat - maybe a bunch of rocks?
Bottom line is I still may be in the used (3-4 year old) boat market due to price considerations.

I've driven the Magic, the Trident Revolution and even the Cheetah Fast Cat (for 4 years).:)
I've been inside the Top Cat.
And I've seen pics and read specs on the Commander Deck, Laveycraft Party Prowler, the Cobra Deck, Ultra Deck, Carrera Deck, Eliminator Fun Deck, American Offshore and probably a few others I can't remember right now.
The lines on the Shockwave are about as clean as I've seen and the fit-n-finish is as good or better than any of those I just mentioned...
For me it's all about justifying the bucks for a new boat when the market is finally beginning to soften up and we're seeing a few decent deals on barely used decks now.

Did you look at the Cobra? Here is the new 260 Python :D
Last week I got my Cheetah it's good-bye annual service at Prestige and Chris is a Cobra dealer too.
He gave me a brochure and I also checked them out on line. Good looking boat - great storage!
In fact, Jeff (Cobra owner) used to rig for the original Ultra guys (the Van Beaks) years ago before starting his own gig.
He did some service for one of my mine (I had two Ultras 89 and 95) when he was Marine Express or something like that. He's done real well with his Cobras.
Anyhow, I have yet to see the deck in person.

He's the guy who added the headrests in the back, right?
I was in his boat last Friday...
Nice boat - freakin' DVD player in the passenger side house, just awesome!
Ask him to GPS that bad boy with the 525, so I know what to expect in mine.
Does he post here?

That's the one, he wanted a cabin like I have in my Conquest. Gotta keep the kids happy. He was on his way to pick it up when they called and said it would be a couple of hours longer. They needed to add another battery, couldn't handle his stereo system as it was. This boat has been a long time coming. It was originally supposed to be done for the LA boat show 2006. I heard they worked him a smoking deal for the over 1 year delay.

One year delay!?!
Geez, I hope they shorten that for mine - it's supposed to be ready for Memorial Day this year!
Yeah, and tell your buddy I appreciate the idea of the port-side, kid's cuddy cabin.
I've got 4 kids and I'm totally copying him... except - no DVD player. :D

I would just like to say that..............
I did some searching and then when I got to the lake Saturday did some searching on the water and found the secret location.
And yes it is like a batcave because I'm not going to tell where it is.

Well my buddy finally picked up his long awaited Shockwave deckboat and I got to check it out up close and take it for a ride. I know that Shockwave has done a great job on their previous boats, but this one gets a big thumbs down from me. For the amount of time they had to build this boat, it was ordered around the regatta 2005, I sure wouldn't have taken delivery of it the way it was. I opened the engine compartment, and there's the fuel tank on the port side completely exposed. I then look in the storage area in front of the drivers helm and all the wiring is exposed as well.
He launches the first day and it won't start, blown 90 amp starter fuse. Absolute fixes it, but now the stereo system won't work.
Finally get out on the water and the hour meter is showing 39 hours on his brand new boat.
The owner said that Shockwave acknowleged that the boat wasn't complete and he'd have to bring it back. I guess the 18 month wait wasn't long enough to get the boat done. This boat was the very first one out of the mold and others have been delivered before his. I can't understand why this boat wasn't done. Every Shockwave I've looked at before has been of top quality, but in my opinion they dropped the ball on this one.

You might want to get your facts straight as his is the only one that has been delivered to this day. The 2nd one that came out of mold is the one that was taken to Havasu for the ***boat shoot and is still for sale.

Well if you look at the first page of this thread, there is a video of a Shockwave deckboat. I beleive the date of that video is weeks before the photo shoot. Is that the 2nd one that came out of the mold and was at the LA boat show? It doesn't look like they're out for a photo shoot to me, more like someone having a good time. Maybe this explains why the hour meter on my buddies new boat read 39 hours.
I spent another day on this boat last weekend. Don't get me wrong, I think it's a nice boat. I know it's the first one out of the mold and you could expect to do some fixes. I wouldn't have expected such a big list from Shockwave. Just a ton of things that need to be addressed. My buddy is way too nice of a guy, and I hope he points out all the things that need finishing up or fixed. I know Bob has read this thread, and hope he does again. I'm not trying to be an ass and bash his boats, just hoping my buddy gets taken care of. We've got a 2 week trip to Powell on 6/20, I hope it all gets done by then.
Glass up the gas tanks
Seal off wiring behind the helm
Fix the rattles from the storage compartments
Run separate pump for the front & rear hosedown, and supply should be from the lake. Right now it's plumbed to the tank for the freshwater sink and barely dribbles out.
Front seat cushions in the deck should be hinged. Right now the only thing holding them there is velcro. With the wind in deckboats, it's only a matter of time before they blow out & smack someone in the head. I didn't check the rear bench, but if that's only velcro, I'd want them hinged as well.

Having sold Conquests for the past 5 LA boat shows gave me the chance to
sit and listen through the curtain to the next door neighbors who are Shockwave. In between the customers you really get a chance to get to
know Bob and his sales people and more importantly you get to hear what
challenges or problems they may or may not be having. When the customers
are there, you get to eavesdrop on what they have to say about their boats.
Here is my 5 years in summation. I NEVER heard anyone who was unhappy with their shockwave boat. I never heard of anyone having problems with
the shockwave owner or employees, or warranties. I did see LOTS of repeat
customers buying their second or third Shockwave. Take those observations
for what their worth. End of my report.
I've never been on their deckboat but I have a sneaking
suspicion that I know what type of bottom is on the boat and if I'm right,
it's probably a great boat. Like the other great boats that they build.

Just curious how you like the boat? I was in the shop for about 2 hours today talking to Bob and getting a price to have one built. I was also curious what type of speeds you are seeing with the 525 and if you have experienced a need for trim tabs. Also, If there is anything you might have done different, can you pm me and let me know....?
Thanks,
B

Just a few more thoughts on the Shockwave deckboat.
My buddy took the boat back to Shockwave to have them address the majority of his concerns. Shockwave did a fantastic job in fixing the items on his list and now the boat is just about perfect. It ran flawlessly for our 9 day trip to Powell. I'd say we boated somedays close to 100 miles some days, exploring every canyon we could find and then some.
As far as performance numbers, even with the high altitude at Powell and running a 24 labbed Bravo 1, the boat ran right around 70mph while hitting the rev limiter. Considering all the stereo equipment and a bunch load of other crap he carries around in his boat, it's a pretty good number. I think a 26 labbed would be perfect for the boat in Havasu. Running a regular 26 in Havasu, rpm's were only @ 5,000, with the labbed I think he'd pickup a few hundred rpms and a few mph.
Now that the boat is really finished, I can say it stands up to the quality of boat we're used to see out of Shockwave. Congrats. on a great boat.
