View Full Version : The Stevens needs a name!

I'll be finishing the Stevens in the next week, and before it's christening at Moabi on the 20th, it needs a fitting name! I've drawn a total blank and need some ideas. I want to tie 2 or more of the following ideas into a name for it.
Flatbottom, jet, gold, dinosaur, survivor, ill handling, rough riding. I'll buy whoever comes up with the winning name a beer at Moabi on the 21st.:D
Ideas?

Enipeus
enipeus was the greek river god. enipeus was loved by a mortal woman named tyro, who pursued enipeus. enipeus refused tyros advances. Poseidon, who lusted for tyro, tricked her and took the shape of enipeus and from their union was born twin boys.
seeing the rarity of the stevens being a flat bottom jet boat (which would seem a perfect river boat) that it can be believed that our jet boats today are a possible result of the stevens. an offspring if you will.

My Greek mythology is a little lacking, so I'll take your word for it. We'll find out next weekend if it's the perfect river boat.
There's no WAY I'm going to name it golden years.... I catch enough crap over the whole AARP thing as it is!
I am kind of intrigued with this though

Flatbottom -reminds me of the Queen song : "Fat Bottom Girls"
Remember Fat bottomed girls you make the rockin' world go round
Maybe you can spin it off of that song and call her “Flat Bottom Girl” a lot of boats have been considered girls out of affection from their owners and well she is a flat bottom so it makes sense to me. :D

It does kinda have that beer can color scheme going on. The engine started out to be a low buck deal, but it didn't wind up that way. After a crack in a cylinder, water sitting (for God knows how long) in the other cylinders, it took 2 sleeves and taking it .060 over to just get decent pistons in it. Then the crank was junk (found out AFTER I'd bought new bearings), and on, and on, and on. The 460 was WAY cheaper to build than this FE. Good thing I'm not expecting it to be fast......

I'm still pondering names.... that's becoming the hardest part of doing this boat! I finished colorsanding and buffing it today, and had enough time to pinstripe it. I'll polish it tomorrow and finish up the trailer. It came out better than I thought it would, but you can't call it new by any means. 5 days left 'till it gets wet....

That's one of the ones I'm mulling over. That and "Jurassic Flat" (don't know why, but it intrigues me), "Golden Oldie", "Flat Sucks", "Fools Gold", and a couple more. I need a beer.........

Thanks. Since the very beginning I knew this boat wouldn't be fast, so I wanted to take it back to it's roots but with a little class. It's been real tempting to modernize things here and there, but I wanted a kind of time capsule look to it. There are a couple things I added that strayed from the original idea, but it's close to what I envisioned.
Gee, I wonder if it FLOATS.....:jawdrop:

Talk about a blast from the past! Thats the nicest retro jet boat I've ever seen! Great Job!!! Looking at that boat really makes me wish I was born back in the day when you could walk into the dealership and buy one of thoughs beauties right there and then.
Still pondering the thought of rolling out there this weekend. If I dont end up going... good luck with the Stevens and be safe.

Well, I decided on a name. I liked "gold school", but I am looking for a time warp effect with this boat, and there was no "school" back in the 60's. What I picked is kind of boring, and is probably one of those over used names of the 60s and 70s, but apprpriate....... "Fool's Gold". I don't have time to cut it before I leave, but I figured I'd get some old style prism tape and use that. Next time out......
