Im looking at buying a 1984 21 ft Hallett with a 235 Johnson. It has a tube framed set back bracket holding the engine about 9-12 inches away from the hull. But no jack plate. Will this work or does it need a jack plate? Also he is running a 19 in pitch 5 blade allum prop. he says it pops up on plane no proplem and goes. But in sure it runs out of prop. What prop should it have and what kind of sppeds can i expect?

I have no idea..But you're a smart man for buying a whacker boat! How many hours does that Johnson have? A 19P prop does seem small.

Thats the one. It needs some work though. I met the people that bought it from the original owner. It wasnt for sale but i talked to them and they said they would sell it when i was ready. It has 4 holes on the front of the cowling that need to be filled. And the engine needs to be painted. which i can do. so not too bad.

the best upgrade you can do for the boat is to put a Merc on it!! :D
When it blows i will put a 2.5 on it.

If you are ever in So Cal I would recommend Al Stoker at John's Custom Marine.:D :D
P.S. I'm running a 21 pitch stainless that is drilled out, with some extra cup, on a 19 ft Eliminator (pad bottom V) with an E-rude XP 150 and I like it fine.:D
I also have mine with a fixed setback and, while a hydrolic jack plate might let me surface my prop and get a few more mph on top end, I'm still pretty happy. I have a great hole shot and I run around 60 mph.:D

Put a new E-Tec on it. That boat is worth it.:D :D
Plus you gotta love those Big Stick colors.:D

I really wonder about no jackplate, where is the nose cone to the bottom of the back pad? That prop is really small also, good for water sports! I run a big wheel, 30 pitch chopper and it is good for high speeds. That boat looks like it could use a cleaver around 28 pitch, I don't know much though :D :D This is mine.....good luck ;) .........( . )( . )...........

Yes, but they sure are cheaper to run.
I pissed a lot of money down the rat hole fixing mine, because I had bad mechanics, that didn't really know outboards.
This year I finally took it to Stoker and man what a difference...If I had gone to him from the start I would have spent no more on repairs (most likely less) than my friends and family have on their jet boats.

With a 235 you can easily run a 24 pitch 4-blade Trophy prop that should give you the numbers you are looking for. Nice catch on your new ride.
