Am I The Only One Confused. I Read All Kinds Of Reviews And I Can't Narrow Down A Tv. I Am Looking At Spending About 1600 On A 42 - 46flat Panel. The More I Research The More Confused I Get.

Where is the LCD going? What is it going to be used for?

In the living room, and it will be used for porn and a random movie here and there.
Oh wait thats the one I want in my room. The living room one will be used for watching TV. I don't play video games anymore, however If I feel the need to get drunk with buddies and pull out the xbox and throw in some halo for battle, I don't want it to look like shit either. :D

I was looking at the sharp aquos 42" but it has less resolution and seems the 46" is a better tv, but I also read that lcd's are better for smaller sizes and plasma for bigger sizes. Looking at samsungs, panasonics...pretty much anything is an option at this point.

If you have a lot of windows in the living room, go with an LCD, and LCD would also be better if you are going to play Xbox on it. I would recommend sitting at least 6' away from the LCD though as they tend to have slower response times than plasma.
I would look at the Sharp Aquos, best LCD's for the price.

At 42 and 46 inches you are not going to see the difference between 1080p and 720p/768p so don't go crazy trying to find something with more resolution.

I have a small house, and only have one main window in the room. I haven't played x-box in about 2 years, so I'm not worried about that. I just want it for movies, and tv. I don't watch tv a lot, but my tv is done, so its time for a new one.

Better contrast with a plasma, if your going bigger then a 42 they are just now starting to make larger lcd's
i have both and like the panasonic plasma the best but it is the hd model

If you watch a lot of movies, then go with a plasma, better picture, as long as it is not a cheap no name brand plasma. Go with a 42" Panny, you will be happy with the Panny.

Go to a retailer, take some time and look. Do not ask many questions, just find one that appeals to your senses. We all react differently to color, smell etc. (some even like fat chicks) then choose one that works for you.
Ps. bring a laptop with you, plug it in, run video/music and see how the display, performs.

Don't I wish, but Sony is dragging its ass on this. So far they have only demoed there OLED in small size monitors. I am still hoping that SED is not dead, but we all know how long law suits can last.

Plasmas are good from front and side angles. Though dark colors can get a goasting effect. LCD are great if you are right in front. As you view from an angle/sides the picture is not very good due to the nature of pixels. DLP sets are good. They are good from side and front angles. They are not bad with glare from windows either. Bad news about DLP is you cannot hang them on the wall like and LCD or Plasma  I can't tell you how many times I went into a Circuit City or Best Buy thinking I had a clue about which set to buy (DLP, LCD or Plasma). Only to come out more confused than when I went in. What did I go with, 56" DLP in the living room. I could get a larger set for the $$ and the picture quality is awesome. 20" LCD for the master bedroom and kitchen. I wanted to hang the sets on the wall and they are relatively inexpensive. :D

yep....onyl paid 950(after taxes) for my 37" Vizio, and I would buy Vizio again.
(they are one of the top consumer-rated TV's out there - which is awesome since they are very competitively priced)
only problem is, Vizio doesn't do 1080p(that I am aware of), only 720p/1080i

I have said this here many times, but everybody now a days wants the cool factor over picture quality. That is one reason I hope SED is not dead.

Vizio uses LG panels in there plasmas, and those are not bad, but there electronics fail a little more than the rest of the other plasma manufaturers out there. There high praise usually comes because of how low there prices are, being new, they are trying to get well known in the market by having low prices, not a bad strategy.
Oh, and fix pixel displays do not and can not do 1080i, it accepts the 1080i signal and converts it to 720p, 768p and 1080p depending on the native resolution rate of the display.

Just bought a 42" Sharp Aquos at Fry's for 1449. Check their web site to see the price...everybody was wiling to match it. I was gonna buy the 46", but the 4" gain was not worth the $$$, and although it is 12000:1 contrast, it was not a better picture. Very happy with the purchase...I just wish i could get one for the bedroom!!!

The Aquos is a great TV at a great price. But, like all other manufacturers, they have known defects.
I believe its BANDING, but is been a while.
Of course Sharp is one of the FEW that recognize it as a "defect" and will replace it.
Some of the other manufacturers are not so customer friendly with such issues.
(like ghosting, burn in, banding, etc.)
I was leaning towards a Sharp, but the price of the Vizio made me decide otherwise.

I went through all this 2 weeks ago. Ended up going to Costco to look at them. I was set on the Sharp Aqious 46" LCD till I saw the 47" Visio LCD sitting next to it. I couldn't tell the difference in picture. So I bought the Vizio. And with the money I saved (about $600) I bought a 32" Visio LCD for my bedroom. So far I'm really happy with them. :D

42" Panny Plasma is a great TV for the $$.
I got the 50" 8 months ago and couldn't be happier.
Freaking WalMart has the Pannys for dirt cheap. I scored mine for a good deal and it's now a ton cheaper.:)

The more I read, the more I got confused too. Since I wasn't putting it on the wall, I went with the Mitsubishi DLP 65" So far, it's an awesome picture. Now I'm looking for a plasma or LCD to hang on the wall in the master bdrm...just can't decide what to buy. Any suggestions ?

got a 40" lcd samsung 1080p hdtv ready two weeks ago and enjoy it. Have no more glare and enjoy the pic...don't even need a cable box and get all the hdtv piped into the house.
these new tvs have sooo many nice features and the picture is remarkable. Sony announced last week a new type of tv is on the way...you may want to save your money and wait a little while.
best of luck.

Sony is talking about there new SXRD rear projection TV's, it will be using new SXRD chips with a faster response time and 120hz refresh rates that will accept a 1080p/24 signal and have HDMI version 1.3 for future components. The earliest it will be out will be July for the lower end model and October for the XBR series.

We just purchased the Vizio 50" Plasma. A friend told me about them. I was a little shaky, as I never heard of them. So I did a lot of research on tv's. This Plasma screen has won a lot of awards. And essentially all of the electronics experts have rated this plasma either a 7 or 8 out of 10, and that is against the 50" plasmas that are above $6000. The customer service is great and their warranty program rocks as well. It has only been 2 months, but If I had to do it all again, I would go the same way.
