Any suggestions? Don't want to keep stealing the good tools out of the tool box when I go boating, so I want to get a dedicated cheap set for the boat. I've seen a few Craftsman sets, but are there other options out there that are better?

The Home Depot stuff is pretty good and cheaper than Craftsman.

I picked up a nice Crescent Mechanics tool set at Costco, were the tools are in those (crappy) plastic slim folding cases. Threw that away put the tools in a spare tool box i had, along with some other must have tool box items; knife, extra plugs, rescue tape, plastic zip ties, wind proof lighter etc. etc. etc. Whole thing cost $100 +/-.

Go to Track Auto, Auto Zone or Pep boys and pick up one of the combo tool kits for like 20 bucks. It's got everything you'll need in there for when you're in a pinch on the lake. I grabbed that and filled in with a few other cheap (china) tools from Track Auto and I was into it for under 40 bucks. I've pulled that kit out a few times and have never had a prob. least expensive/best purchase I've made!

I bought this one from Sears, has all the basics then added a few of my own. I like the tool bag because it's easier than a box to shove in to storage spaces.

I got for X-Mas that was from Costco. I think it was made by Cresent. It don't matter, it has a lil of everything in one neat case. Better than my tool bag clangin around under the seat!

God I love Harbor Tool & Freight. Cheesy crapy tools for cheap. I started the Havasu tool set at Costco and finished it off at HT&F. :D

I learned the hard way that buying cheap tools usually leads to massive amounts of frustration when you need to count on them. Husky stuff from the Depot is a good deal for the money, I use their sockets with Craftsman socket wrenches and hand wrenches and they all seem to work out fine. The Husky socket and hand wrenches are in the throw-in-the-truck ammo can for trips and emergencies, and they haven't let me down yet. Wait for the sales, the price is much better.
After watching a Harbor Freight sander self-distruct on me in under 10 minutes of use, and stripping several bolts with ill-fitting HF wrenches, IMO all I'd get at HF is clamps, tarps and other non-essentials.. there's a reason that wrench is only 99 cents there, and it ain't quality.
