It looks like the ship was dead in the water. Not a good position to have the waves breaking broadside. I can only imagine what the passengers were doing.

looks to me, like he has power, notice when the ship heels over, the props are exposed, and send up a lot of spray....he may just be in a serious headwind and not making much headway....

I spent 2 years of my likfe in sh*t like that. I lived in alaska for for 2 years. i was in kodiak ak. in the USCG, we used to go out in seas that bad all winter long in a 235 ship. 35ft seas with 60+mph wind. a wind chill of -55. Its not fun at all. But what a great time we had.

Yeah, I was a SAR Corpsman in the Navy for 4 years active and 2 years reserve. People would be suprised what kind of seas are 20 miles west of the Channel Islands. We would fly in some nasty stuff. 30 ft seas, 60 mph gusts, in the dark, in an HH-60H. We did 20 ft seas one night in a twin Huey out of El-Toro with 50 plus winds........All to pick up a chest pain on a fishing boat. Whats worse is having to be hoisted down to the boat and back up to the Helicopter. I actually used to think that was fun:jawdrop: Doing it on a boat in Alaska.........That will put some hair on your nuts!!!

I DIG IT !

The #2 resue on the first video is the ship that the The USCG Storis tried to save, thats the ship I was on. That fishing boat is still beached on that shore today.

"So Others May Live":D I went to NACS in 2003, I was stationed at Nav Hosp Pensacola for a year prior. I had a good friend who was a rescue swimmer at NAS. He got me on a training flight once I had my physical at NAMI. I was hooked. He gave me my cookie during hoist training in the bay. Once done in Pensacola, I was at Pendleton for a year and a half, going TAD to Yuma and El Toro, but I was attached to HMLA 169,a Marine Light Attack Squadron flying Twin Huey Fat Attacks who also did SAR coverage up in San Bernadino and 29 Palms with SB Sheriff. Then I went to HMT 303, who was the FRAC squadron for the Huey's. Lots of training. THen I went to HCS 5 on the HH60H flying CSAR and Spec War support, backing up Coast Guard LA on Civilian rescues/medical flights. That was the best flying I had ever been part of. I did not enjoy the military, but I miss the flying every single day.
