From what I have heard, so take it for that, Merc always underrates their HP...

My HP 500 efi's made 565 HP at 5100 rpm and 611 ft lbs of torque at 3800after a rebuild.
Bored .010 over, recalibrated ECM.
Corrected #'s and the sheet to prove it :D :D :D

525 makes 500 and the 500 makes 480.
At the prop. A Bravo eats about 25HP, and an XR eats about 30HP.
Therefore, a 500 should be 500HP at the crank.

I think the insurance companies rate the HP500 efi 470 at the prop.

What are you smoking. 525 makes about 530 to 539hp. everyone i have talked to says they show over stock numbers.

I'm not sure what I was smoking, I remembered some testing info I had read once incorrectly. I just went and researched it so I could show you that I was right, turns out I'm wrong. It showed the 525 making between 540-550. Gonna have to think twice about trusting that aging memory of mine :D

Thats the number I've heard and thats what Merc rates them at ATP. But as mentioned Merc tends to under state the HP numbers so thats why I asked but apparently its a mystery that we'll never have an absolute answer on, oh well it's fast enough for me. Thanks, NSF

Pretty good report over in Out Drive Tech on these things with Dyno that has prop shaft ratings for the 496 HO in different configurations, good reading and info!!! NSF

I heard that about that 525,that it could be anywhewre from 525 to 560,the numbers are all over the place depending on who's talking. I guess i havent heard it about the 500 efi. Youve got 500HP, whats 25 either way ? Not very much :)

I've heard 470 pshp as well, but I bet there is more to it than that.

HP at the prop is a whole other bear. From what i have been told its way lower at the prop. That is why you try and tell the insurance companies prop HP.
