Wife and I are looking to buy a moderately priced SUV and came across a nice Durango R/T. (2001) Then I read online that they have to run on premium unleaded. Anyone know if this is really true or if you can sneak in regular and be okay. If it's true, any recommendations for a power programmer to turn it down and run on regular? Thanks.

I have an 07 escalade and we were putting 87 in it and it was always hesitating. I had one of the first '07's when they came out and I don't think the dealer was aware that it need 91. I read the manual and is says to use 91. I started running 91 and it hasn't hesitated since

I had an 01 Durango RT for a few years... Probably one of the best, if not the best car I've owned.. It was a great tow vehicle too.. To answer your question, Yes.. It needs the higher octane gas. I cheated it a few times with the cheap stuff and it was noticeable through the pinging noise and loss of power. Hope this helps.......
