What about the broken valve springs and metal in the oil filter?

it has 1 spring that needs to be replaced.and a friend took the filter and cut it in 1/2 and said ther was no metal but lots of cylicone and a magnet would not pick up anything but looked like there could be some alum and looked to be paint chips (black) but i have had more than a few mechanics say its probably a head gasket.
