Good ? I just bought a lap top to take to havi. I called my snowbird and he said he had NPG? install a cable outlet. He said he rents a router for $50 when he gets into town, and it's $45 ish a month. Then he turns it off when he leaves. He said it works better then dial up.

I just ran a test, cable in Parker ...
Down 2824 kbps
Up 469 kbps
About half the down speed of cable in the OC.
When I first got cable in Parker, the down was about 100 KBPS or 1/2 meg down.
Here are the results of a second test.

Either buy a modem and bring it with you, or bring an existing modem and have it pinged when you get service.

I have NPG at work and Frontier at home. And you cant tell the difference.
NPG is 49.99 a month and you have to rent the modem for $5 a month.
Frontier is 39.99 a month no rental and the first months free right now.

What do you have DSL or Cable and what works betterI have the DSL out there and it works great. Wouldn't use the cable company ever again. I busted them for defrauding me on some install work. They charged me 150 for a drop bury that was never done and dug their heels in when questioned. I got my money back when I showed them pictures of their "work". NPG are crooks.

I had NPG install my internet connection a month ago. I opted for the slow ass signal that is about double dial-up speed. Works great to check work e-mail the two or three weekends a month I'm out there. Only runs $25 a month with no modem rental. High-speed is $50 plus $5 rental.
Great customer service and installation.

Went with NPG Cable cause I didn't want a phone line and to pay the BS taxes that go with it.

I've got NPG here in Parker. For both 'net and phone. Runs about $85 bucks a month.
Download is maxed on my wireless laptop @ 1236, upload 488.
2874/490 on the desktop. (wired)
I went with the NPG phone also, as it was cheaper than Verizon/ATT local service/long distance.
Separate phone/Long distance/ Internet was running near $100 a month. And that was with red River Dial-up. No DSL available in Parker.
And the phone service has call waiting, caller ID, Voice mail, all the things Verizon doesn't offer down here.

I just use my Verizon broad band card :D We have looked into using Diecway through our directv, but havent gotten around to having it installed yet.

Just tested again. 2330/492 on the laptop.
Guess it depends on exactly when you do the test.

I use Frontier for DSL, Phone, and Dish Network. One bill makes it simple. Frontier provided me a free wireless modem.

Poachers
I have to have it because I work from our house while we're there. I would be SOL if my neighbor blocked his router.
