What hull is this? Look how deep the runners are. I know for a short time Brendella made one with the same name, but the outside flats on this one are wider than I remember.

Almost sure it is a Sanger. The Brendella looks just like it but, there is no step down on the cap by the driver & passager.Looks like a 7/8 or bigger runner!

that is a 2 inch runner Brendella. Hondo also made a 1 inch runner but it only had 3 plates not 5 like the brendella.

Would swear thats a Sanger.
Sanger did a lot of one off's for the race boats during the 70's.
The boat my brother currently has was banned from racing in California in 1972.
So it was sold to my Dad in Washington.
I also dont believe anyone ever "SPLASHED" the Sanger bubble deck.
And that is a bubble deck.
Just my .05 cents....

What kind of Racing was it banned from? Circle or Drag Racing.

It almost looks like the Howard Flat that we used to have. It was a 2" runner bottom with a bubble deck, except it did not have the wide outside runners...they were about 1 1/2" wide. I think I ran about 118 MPH with that boat and a 440 in motor back in the late 70's. I often what happened to that boat???? Anyway maybe that will help.

I'm thinkin' that this boat was for sale last year at CFW..Don't know if it sold though..They were gettin ready to launch it, when they hooked up the battery, all the wiring went up in smoke..Someone had put the battery in backwards so when they hooked the cables up and hit the switch...POOF..... eek!

My how times change.
I miss the manufacturer wars....

Just my .05 cents.... When I worked for Sanger they were always trying to come up with new bottoms and deck designs. Jack was great at turning out new looking stuff that some people would think looked a little different at the time but then it would soon be copied by all the other manufactures, like the infamous Bubble Deck. Eliminator, Howard, Rogers, Brendella, even Kona & Tahiti had a Bubble Deck, and who really knows how many others. As far as the runner bottom goes, Jack told me on serveral occations that the first runner bottom drag boat was a Sanger. Hondo copied that (made the center pad wider in future years), and Jim Cole who at one time ran a Hondo copied that. All of them made changes to the Runner bottom design, but the originator was Jack Davidson. Just as the Pickle fork was an original SANGER IDEA!!!. They came back from a drag race at Oakland I believe, cut the front end off the CLIMAX TFH, formed the front of the sponsons and returned to the next race with the NEW DESIGN as we all know as the Pickle Fork. Todays designs all look the same because no one whats to be that different then the other in fear of losing sales. When were at river someone will ask what kind of boat is that, most common answer is 'WHO CARES' they all look the same!!. frown

If I remember correctly, (and for me that's a big IF), Irv Brendell and his wife split up but she kept Hondo boats. He went on to make the Brendella with the big runners. Tom Label at AME had one he raced in UGF, but it crashed after going through the lights at Chowchilla in the '80s. The discussion then was the about the boat's reentry design on the front of the boat when you go to slow down after a high speed run. I just remember thinking that a deep runner lilke that has to be putting a lot of air under the boat making air management very tricky.

I currently run a 81 Howard with the deep runners. The hull is very stable and have never had any handling problems. It runs 10.0's at 109
with a 460 chev. I also run against a Brendella with the same hull, except I run the outside plates and his dosen't. The hull seems to be very
efficient and also handles the rougher water much better than most. It sees double duty on and off the track.

My last boat was a Brendella 2 inch runner bottom. I had to run the prop 2 inches back fron the strut so it wouldn't fly on the top end. Not legal for any racing. It was also very hard to shut down after a pass, lots of tail walk. The top didn't look like the boat about.

I do believe that hull is a Sanger. The Howard and the Brendella DO NOT have the side step up behind the driver.

We run a 1978 bubbledeck 2" runner and I love it.
It's a pretty light hull so the rough stuff is out, but on nice water or with some wind chop it handles great. We'll be at Putah Creek mothers day weekend. Look forward to seeing you all there.

Just talked to Mike Brendel he seems to think that the boat is a early sanger. I'v seen VooDoo's boat run and it does work really well.

There was something like that at Needles over the weekend. I never made it over to talk to the people, but I remember some big 'ol runners.
