atleast it was only in one piston, all the others look good. So I think I'll leave it for next weekends project.

Looks like no windows out of the block............ya quit boatin just in time ;)yeah, my biggest concern is the crank, otherwise the fix shouldn't be really major. The cause........ Oil injection! the tank on the motor was dry, the reserve tank was 1/2 full. No alarms, no bells, no little hand coming out and slapping me.......just locked. So it looks like premixing is in my near future.

:( sorry to see your misfortune. Were you able to get a tow in?
I had a lock up once, distroyed my crank to the point that they couldn't even turn it. We were about a mile from the ramp, and had to row the entire way back. :( No one would stop to offer a tow in.

I towed two boats this weekend...One at the raft up (no big deal) ....The other .....holy shit. Pulled out of Topock at 8:30 pm, dude flagged me down and said he blew the motor. Long story short, I towed him all the way to Windsor Launch. Got off the water at 11:15. F**k it ruined my whole night but I couldn't just leave him stranded....I know someday I will need the favor returned, I also knew I was his last chance to get towed that night, turns out I was right, we didn't pass one boat the whole way back
Sorry, I just wanted to give myself a pat on the back..

Well Im only a second year jet boater, and I hate to say it but they look cast. IMO I would put in Forged Aluminum Pistons. It will help from that ever happening again.

well, the cause was from no oil, the oil injection quit working but I didnt get any warning alarm, The oil takn on the motor was empty when I pulled the cowel off

Nikasil motor? Send it to Ruck and have it re-nik'd, then put top pinned pistons in it.

how can you tell a cast outboard piston from a forged one by looking at the burned up top of it?

I hope he kicked you down a 30 pack. Helping out a stranded boater is one of the unwritten rules that REAL boaters follow. You do deserve a pat on the back for doing the right thing...

WTF? Yea, if you want to get screwed royally!!! And before you start throwing rocks, he took me for about $6K. After I got screwed, I looked around and found several others that had been too. http://www.***boat.com/ubb/mad.gif
I wouldn't worry about the crank. The pistons are the first ones to lose oil, although the last one I blew, it messed the pin end of the rod up too (lack of fuel/oil). I can't believe some of you guys still run oil injection. It isn't a matter of if, it is a matter of when!!! http://www.***boat.com/ubb/graemlins/idea_2.gif
Nothing wrong with cast pistons. They will live a long live if you keep the rpms to 7500 rpms or so. Looks like a steel sleeve block to me.

yeah I hear ya there. Yesterday's trip was for two things. First off, i drystacked the motors and took it out to dial in the water pressures and second was to drain down the fuel tanks so I could start premixing. I guess I was one trip too late.
