We were driving home today and all of a sudden dead stop... We were inching our way down the 40. We were about 35 miles from the 95 and we decided to turn around and take Rice Road. Did anyone take the 40 and the 15 home? How long did it take?

Looks like you answered your question with your pics :D My kid left Havi at 1100am, I left at 1245pm. Around 145 he was stuck just past essex and I was at Goffs. I turned back and took Goffs to 29 palms to Hesperia, he made it home about an hour before me. All in all, my side trip added 20 miles and 45 minutes to my normal commute. I don't know how long I would have sat in traffic, but it was well worth it, as I don't do well sitting still!

I was in it- I'd say it cost me about an hour on my drive. Hell, there were times when I didn't move for 10 minutes.
Of course, that one guy (and his shovel) are no farther along on those damn bridges than they were a year ago.

It added about an hour to the drive as well, and I left Havi around 9am...:) It's a usual Sunday, for the most part (we normally travel on Monday). Lots and lots of bikes to help pass the time...

:D Get off the "Crack Pipe" Randy. Everyone should know that the bridge construction transition to EB side bottle necks a few miles after Essex Rd and again just before Kelso Rd. Next time exit Mountain Springs (Old 66) and just keep going to Ludlow.

With the poker run, truck event and the laughlin run I should of know better then to try the 40. Even worse listening to the radio they were saying the 15 was also backed up with a bunch of accidents. We just cut cut across the freeway and took the 95 back Havi and connected to Rice Road. Have not been on Rice Road in years but it was empty.

Yeah, that was the worst I've seen it, and we didn't leave Needles until 4:30 Sunday. We cut over to Amboy Rd at Essex though, and ran back through Twenty-nine Palms. Even so, that little stretch from the Reststop to Essex Rd took like 30 minutes.

It took me an hour and a half to go ten miles! Plus the CHP had a trap at the end to catch bikers driving on the shoulder.....just let them go, at least it helps some of the traffic!

Our exact path too. My neighbor was 45 minutes in front of us and called to warn us...we tried to sit it out for about 20 minutes, then turned around and took the Amboy route. It was a nice change of scenery. My neighbor arrived home 45 minutes ahead of us...so it was about the same.

We hit it at approx 12:00ish just before the bridge construction and cost us a
1 1/2 hr to our drive.

I left Bulhead City at 10:30 am. The jam at bridge repair added about 45 minutes to my drive home. It was bad, but not nearly as bad as late afternoon last Labor Day. Took almost 2 hours to get through it Labor Day. One good thing about the jam was that it helped thin traffic after.

I decided to stay in Havi till Tuesday... I will add how nice the lake was yesterday... the group of hb'ers in steamboat could have been what made it so nice!
we listened to peeps talk about how bad traffic was on the 40 all day, even while we were on the water... yuk...

Believe me they would just as soon not been there OK. They were forced to work 12 hour shifts for the last six days. Let them do their job!! NSF

It was sooo slow that the chick in front of us got out of her car, opened the trunk and cracked open a cold one and she was driving.

Hmm, I left Havi around 11:30 and sailed to the 95 on the CA side. No traffic to that point anyway.

I left at 8:30am. Added about a half hour to the drive home. However, at Kelbaker, there was a motorcycle accident. It didn't slow the traffic down (yet anyway). The only person on sight was a single CHP. I could only see an upside down Harley (I think a Road King) with it's saddle bags strewn about the area. Couldn't see the rider(s). Hope they were OK.

Great seeing you Friday.
Kudos to you for helping the family out... I will never forget you and Todd helping me that day of the rhino ride.

We left Havi at 9 am on the bikes, knowing the traffic would be bad later on, didn't expect it that early, we split lanes, along with 10,000 other bike that I said earlier over half of them need training wheels and had no business riding with other bikes. Had the CB on for my weekly truck driver entrainment solving all the problems of the world, they were pissed about the bikes splitting lanes, some of their brothers were rippin them new azzholes for complaining. We made it through except for the few dick heads on bikes, the trike thinking he could split lanes, then wanting to fight a hundred bikes because they were pissed at the this dick weed!!! Then the Azzhole on the Victory (which stands for its a "Victory" if they make it home!!) tailgating the other bikes!!Couldn't even see this guys headlight!!!
Was never so glad to get home!!!

I left about 7:15 am. This guy must have went down less than a minute when I saw him. His tires were still spinning. He was sitting up on the side of the road, so I assume there were no major injuries. Some other guys pulled over to get him out of the lanes.
Did anyone else see the bike on fire right before the Hodge Rd. exit?

I knew that would happen so I did my trip to Needles from Wednesday to Saturday. Smooth sailing all the way across the 40 :D
In fact, I had more traffic on 40 heading East on Wednesday than on Saturday heading West.

We left Topock around 12:30 & got home at about 3:00p.m. Hubby saw the back up starting and we decided to take national trails highway (through Amboy). We made pretty good time going that way.

So help me understand the traffic....
Was it because of Lane Reduction and redirect for the "Never Ending" bridge work? Or just plain stop in the middle of fawkin nowhere chain reaction overload?
I dont river up that direction sense I am a parker guy. Havent been that way in a few years or so. It used to just stop a few miles from Barstow.
And I have done my fair share of the "Whitewater wait in line" but in the middle of the 40!
