How do you guys get the right hitch? Is it based on trailer tire size or what.
I have a two in drop hitch but it just does not look right. Any suggestions? We do not have a good trailer place here that I have found, so some help would be nice.
Thanks,

4" lift means the super drop hitch.
Ya usually, (check that USUALLY) want either 18" from ground to the top of the ball or approx 21" to 22" depending on the size/type of the trailer.
Availble from Ekhart, or usually Pep Boys or Kragan.

I base mine on tongue height and level trailer. I have a 6 inch lift and 35's on my GMC and for the boat, I use a 5" drop for the boat and a 4" drop for my 6x10' motorcycle trailer.

Thanks, as it sits right now it is at 22" to the top of the ball. I know it is not a big lift, but I do worry about the trailer coming off and taking out the family. I usually like to tow with the trailer exactly level, is this right?

So basically just make sure it is level and I will be fine?
Thanks,

It depends on several things. First level your boat trailer while unhooked and measure what the ball height needs to be while level. Second, measure your Excursion ball height before hitching up, then hitch it up to the boat. See how much your suspension settles. Take the ball height unhitched on the Excursion, subtract the height is settles and then figure out what it is going to take to hook up and have the trailer level from the trailers measured ball height.

Yes.
Exactly level will enable the the trailer brakes to work better from my experiences.
If it isnt level, you can tickle the height until it suits your needs. Doesn't have to be by-the-book heights.
Are you using load equalizing bars?
If not, consider the rapid hitch.,
I have one and it's excellent.
Opt for the locks because someone will steal it.
Most gas stations are level at the pump, and it's where I make my final level check.

OK, I think I have had one to many beers to understand this, I will have to read it again in the morning. LMAO. The Expo does not settle at all with the boat in tow. So I will just level the boat and measure. Thanks for that, really! The way it sits now, kind of freaks me out. Kind of like going over a hill or some pitch and I can imagine the trailer popping off.
Also, did'nt you use to have a Southwind, or is that a different guy?????

Thats what I've always done and it has always worked for me. To hell with all the math!! LOL!!!
Park that thing across the street...if it isnt level, measure the sag in your rear fenders then remove the trailer. Measure the tongue at level, subtract the truck sag and youre good to go!

Was it green and white? I have been away for a while, but there used to be a guy that frequented Big River with a really nasty green and white hull.

I had one made with a solid shank for my old truck, this truck I bought a rapid hitch. They are clean looking and easy to use.;)

I would also take a look at the "Brophy" brand adjustable hitches. They are clean, (Like the Rapid Hitch), but the locks are all internal.:) No removing lock shanks to adjuct it or remove it.;) .

Ebay. B&W three ball hitch, rated at 10k. And it swings out of the way when not in use so you bang your legs.
The bling factor is not the same as the aluminum "baller" hitch, but it s the most practial.
And its cheaper!!!
