Hello everyone! I am a newbie to HB forum. I have been on for about 4 days now, and I have enjoyed all of the posts i have read. I have put in my 2 cents occasionaly. I have been going to Havasu since the 70s and I still visit when my finances will allow. My boat is going thru a total restoration and probably won't be finished until next year, so in the meantime when I go to Havasu, I will be one of those sidewalk boaters in the channel.

My boat is quite old, but when it is done, I hope I will be able to enjoy it for a long time. Besides I will have soooo much money into it I won't be able to even try to sell it.

Welcome aboard! I did a resto on a 1980 26' Ambassador my damnself. Hell of a fun boat, pretty roomy too, shit you could hold a concert under the bow of those sumbitches. I'll find a couple "before and after" pics and post them. :)
Now you just have to put the sumbitch in the water!!!!!:D :D :D

Thanx. That would be a big help considering I have to replace the stringers, floor and I reorganized the seating in the cockpit area. I am also replacing the 350ci with a 500hp 454 with a tunnel ram. I can't do too much hp because of the 280 Volvo outdrive.

Right now I can't afford to do that. I have been out of work since February and I am being forced to sell my other two boats to survive:(

Too late for the small block. BMS Machine/BMS Racing is putting the short block together now. I just need to come up with a few more $$$$ to finish. I recently purchased a 15 x 19 and a 14 1/2 x 21 SS props from iboats for $150Ea. I have also contacted Hill props to see if they would make a 4 blade 14 x 23. Haven't heard back yet. I did the same thing that you did with the seating arrangement in the upper area. The only difference in the cabin area is that the little cabinet and the ice box was up front. Thru the ice box in the trash. I will use the cabinet for storage. I have a lot to do to it but will take some time. Yours looks really nice. Thanks for the photos.

no GPS reading yet, only the boats speedo which I know is way off (slow) hits 51mph @ 5kRPM, don't waste your time with anything less than a 21p prop, I have tried them all
the best bang for the buck was the 15d x 21p 3b alu. Michigan which I had cupped...it was ok topped out at 44mph...cruised at about 30mph but it loved to burn the prop right around the hub
I tried the solas 14d x 21p 4b alu.....worthless.... leaps out of the hole but maybe 35mph max. it was off my boat in a hurry.
so I went and bought the largest prop I could find for the 280
Solas 15.625d x 23p 3b SST...BIG....HUGE!!!!! difference, now I have something to work with that I can pitch and cup over this summer
if your running the big block go this route, you can get it at iBoats for $278
solas pn 8841-156-23, it's a R/H rotation so you may have to switch the rotation of your drive but it's real easy on a volvo, just move the shifting lever to the opposite side (the one under the cover that says 280), it's no big to the handling being has many of the Ambassadors came with a big block and a bravo1 with R/H rotation. if you want to stay L/H rotation the P/N is 8842-156-23..but it's a long leed time item

I will try the props I have now. But in the future I am looking into a 4 blade prop from Ron Hill. He quoted me a year ago, a SS 3 or 4 blade prop a 15x21 for $400 custom made

so in regards to this whole resto bit...Bilge??? I've got two oldies, one which I'm not touching, another which I've considered repainting, cept it's got a heaping pile of gel (74 Kona). Question is, how do you prep the boat, is there a special paint, or is it actually a gel again? I've never considered doing this, but I may if it's not ridiculous.
Thanks for the advice.
