When you look down on the engine (454 BBC) from above, moving clockwise from the distributor, is the numbering 7 5 3 1 2 4 6 8 ? Thanks.

Looks like I had the RH and LH sides flip-flopped. I got my info from
http://www.summitracing.com/tech/charts_guides/firing_order/tz_02charts_firing.htm
Thanks, OLDSQUIRT.

I'm thinking he may be refering to fireing order???
And the the port side of a chevy motor with the harmonic ballancer to the bow would be...
front
1 2
3 4
5 6
7 8
rear

I used the distributor as a reference because this is in a v-drive boat and I didn't want to get confused with any reference to front or back. The boat's not here to look at, so I think the pulley/harmonic balancer is at the opposite end of the motor as the distributor, right? I think that means that from both of your discriptions (with OLDSQUIRT's correction), my description was right?
(I wasn't refering to firing order.)
