I just install one of these in my pump. Much better than the old DPS seal.:)

How do these hold up? Any special machining?

No special machining they just replace the rope that you have now. Put it in and there is no adjustments. They hold up very well, it free's the shaft up to spin easier due to that you are not clamping down on it anymore. They work very well.
