View Full Version : BBC Heads???????

I have chance to pick-up some heads. These will be for a 427 Im going to build. I have these casting #s 781,772,292,and 820.....Are any of these any good? I looked on Mortec.com Im just not sure what ones are best.

What is your intention for using this motor? Race? Cruise? Don't know? :D
That can make the difference in money and where it could be better spent...

If you go to www.google.com (http://www.google.com) and type in chevy head identification you will get some site that will tell you the difference between the #'s. Thats what I did.

I guess I should have given a little more info. The engine will be for pleasure. That means a once in a while blast. :D I know these heads are oval port. They are also all open chamber, but some have different cc,s I have a set of stainless valves I will be using. I just thought maybe someone thought one set was better than another. Dan

DanAs far as oval ports I've heard the 049's are the best, they have a bigger exhaust port and flow the best with a little work. The 781's are also desirable. It appears the 820 and the 781 are alot alike. The 820 has a smaller cc chamber therefore a little more compression would be achieved. Good luck! :D

DanI think the 781's are 119 or 118cc's. I cant remember but its one of those numbers.
