I need suggestions on a cam for a jet boat, i am throwin together a 10-1 454 with edelbrock aluminum square port marine heads and probably a performer rpm intake and i am going to install a hydrolic roller cam, the boat isn't going to be a speed machine, just a healthy cruiser. I dont think it matters just as long as it is in the normal operating rpm range. I would like any suggestions. thanks

The Isky Custon I have has great response, and great power in my oval-port headded 8:1 CR 454 up through 5-grand (5400 on Nitrous)
It's a custon I got from DuaneHTP at Hi-Tech Performance.
Basically it's an Isky 280H (.565" lift, 280* seat duration) but with very aggressive ramp rates. This is the 3rd year, and I still love it

Sounds like I may have some good advice for you. I am running really close to 11:1 compresion with a 280 High lift 231 @ 50 Comp Cam. Some say its to mild for them but it sounds great and performs great. I feel you would be more than pleased with this cam. Good luck and happy boating.

Jet boats love a lot of duration Keep the lift reasonalible and it will last you a long time.

I just got done searching for a cam and got recommendations that were all over the place. I finally let my engine builder choose the cam. If I had it all put together I and running I would let you know, but I dont yet...however, the one thing everybody said was to go with solid lifters instead of hyd

I would double check his selection if I were you! If he doesn't know Jetboat motors REALLY well you are leaving power on the table...

Thanks...he's a real pro and does his homework. The cam he chose matched what Bullet recommended also and I've heard good things about them...also, I am only hoping to maintain the performance it originally had to begin with...;)

Gotta gree here. It's apples and oranges tween yours n mine, as I'm running a BBF with a flat tappet hydraulic, but I love my Clay Smith cam and will buy another in a heartbeat (if I can ever wear out this motor I have now that is).

I ran a clay smith solid flat tappet in my last motor. It was a bitchin stick. 258@.050/108 lobe/.615 lift. Plus I had 12-1 compression.
Are you running water in your headers? That will determine the lobe seperation:idea: I wouldnt go below 110 with wet headers or logs etc.
Clay smith is very good at cams. I use Chris Straub here on the boards now. He will grind a cam to fit your motor specs! He has done alot of cams for alot of board members. FOURQ has his latest grind and he is in love with it.
