What the heck is bump?

Pardon my lack of "geek speak" what does it mean when posts a reply that just says "bump" ?

People put it to bring their thread back to the top of the forum. Its a thread "Bump". Sometimes you will see "ttt" Which also stands for "to the top" as in "bump to the top" :D

Any time there is a post to a thread, it brings it back to the top, so a "bump" is nothing more then bringing something back to the top of the page.
