Anyone know of a website or person I might talk to concerning the proper way ( or any way for that matter ) on how to set the single cav plate on my
'70 Hondo flat? Hoping to try out fresh motor & MSD at CFW Father's Day.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Fiat 48 would proably a good bet. He goes to CFW a lot and had a great reputation...

Are you driving off of your flywheel? Is it a two or three piece cav plate? I can give you a good starting point and tell you what to change after you run it the first time. Do you have a foot pedal plate control with a lock out handle?

I am assuming it's a true flat and not a runner.
Put the up pedal against it's stop for max up.
Using a 3 foot straight edge....under the boat...adjust the plate to 1/4" up. Check this all along the plate.
You are contouring the plate with the bottom of the boat.....the plate being an extention of the boat.
Best I can explain it. Perhaps I can help you Father's day weekend at CFW.

Fiat is giving you a good starting point. I had a 76 Hondo flat. Mine was a sprint. I found adding little bit of a gull wing seemed to help the isolating hop at the mid to top end. Look us up at CFW on fathers day.:D

Your Hondo should be a single one piece plate. I have a 71 Hondo with the same set up. I set mine with a slight [3/16"] upturn in the center and app. 1/8" down at the edges making a slight gullwing. This is a loose set up for my boat and I need to plate it slightly at speed, keeps me on my toes.:D

I'm not sure if my reply made it on or not so I'll try it again. Thanks for all of the responses! How might I find you guys @ CFW on Father's Day? What kind of rigs/boats would I be looking for. (And moreso who am I looking for). My name is Dave and my Hondo is purple/white/silver. Thanks again.

Wild and Out,
If you are volunteering to be the first victim I don't think you need an invite, just show up.
I have a hunch there will be a few side by side passes going on, if thats your thing.

And in your book this would me what? Does this mean you don't want to race, or just that I would not qualify to help someone set his cav plate?

Morg,
Are your plates 3/16 up in the middle of both sides or just to the middle of the boat?
My Dads Aqua Craft has very slight V so do you think it would work the same as a true flat?

Morg
06-07-2007, 07:13 PM
I forget the exact numbers I had the old Hondo set up at. It was up in the center, then down on the outsides of the plate. Pretty sure the passenger side was lower than the drivers side.
I don't know a thing about Aqua Crafts. But with the slight V I'm guessing you have two plates. You could give the gull wing set up a shot?? :)
Jerry got me set up on the Hondo.
