In order for my credit union to sign off the final paperwork on a boat loan they need the boat to be checked by a marine surveyor. Strange cause it's only a 20k loan on a boat that is going to be no longer than 21'. Is this normal practice for a loan company, it's the first time I've heard of it.
Second, if so could anyone recommend somebody in the San Diego area that would be able to do it, meaning they could travel to see the boat and check it out since I don't own it yet?

On a boat that size how detailed do the inspections tend to be, are they more or less just an appraisal for the lender or do they check the seaworthiness of the boat?
