i am parting out a 91 GMC 3500 that i had 4.56 gears installed in both front and rear end. its a 14 bolt 11" ring gear rear with factory locker, and the IFS front end. i believe the front is a 9 inch but id have to look it up to be sure. id let the entire running gear go real cheap if it fits your truck. BTW the gears have maybe 5K miles on them and i broke them in correctly. would be an easy swap.

Talk to Jim at Performance Diff. off Campus next to the Ontario airport. He came highly recomended and has re-geared two of my trucks and a bunch of friends vehicles. I paid about $1400 for front and rear to 4.56's. Jim is a great guy and stands behind his work 100%. I actually had an issue with a bad bearing in one of the re-gears...it ate the entire front diff housing...Jim fixed it no questions asked.
Good luck,
Chris Mock

I am running 38" tires and was told to also install 4:56 gears. 04 2500 4x4 duramax.

Hey Chris what size tires you running to need to go to 4:56 gears. I was going to try to get away with 4:10's with 37's
I was running 35's with the Whippled 6.0L gasser and towing about 14,000 lbs.....
Now I run 35's with the Duramax and it cruises the highway great but I don't tow heavy anymore. Stock is 3.73's with Dmax so you may be ok with 4.10's and 37's. If I was towing more than 10,000lbs a lot I'd go 4.56 with 37's and 4.10's for 35's. If you don't tow a lot or often...the 4.10's should be ok with the 37's.
Try this gear calculator and see what it shows you:
http://www.4lo.com/calc/geartire.htm
Hope that helps,
Chris

4.10's should be OK for you then no problem. I think 35's are a good compromise of lift and traction with out too much hassle and wear and tear.
Good luck,
Chris

I am running 37's on 24's with the CST 11" kit.... I went with the 11.5" 456's for the rear and the truck runs better than stock, also I have tons of power on the fwys as well as the street, better mpgs also came along with the gear change....

How does the truck shift with the new gears? I have heard re-gearing the diesels they seem to shift rough and are not as smoothy. Rumor or truth?

I had an '06 lly with the 6 speed tranny. I ran 38's with no problems with the stock 3.73's. I put the tires on when the truck only had 20 miles. My new dually drives pretty much the same with the stock tires. I wouldn't even worry about it. I towed 12K lb toy hauler w/o any problems what so ever. Spend your money on exhaust/programmer.

I am running 37"s and did the programmer first. Plenty of power now with increased mileage. I really thought I also needed to regear, which now I am happy that I did not go that route.

Well long story short the original reason for the re-gearing was my trans temp was always warmer than i liked. I never had a power problem cause i did the exhaust/chip/intake. So i thought with the gear change would solve it. Did some research and ended up putting a bigger Trans cooler on it and bingo!!!!! The trans temp never goes over 125 around town and not even close to 200 anymore towing or on the fwy. I was blown away with the tiny trans cooler chevy put on the truck. One of the best investments soo far on the truck. Got it from Inglewood Transmissions talk to Mike. He is the man.

GM just gave me transmission number three.....bad solenoid let the tranny slip and run warm...then it limped while towing......they rebuilt it once without replacing the TQ converter....:(....so three weeks later they rebuilt it again this time with a new TQ converter.....I'm not running big power or towing real heavy but a bad solenoid started it all......I too and talking with Mike about one of his tranny coolers.
Did you get the new 06 cooler with the newer lines or just the larger 05 and newer one?

The 06 is a different one than he uses on the 04-05. Its alot of money but well worth the performance of it and specially if you plan on keeping your truck for awhile, like i am. If you want to check it out let me know i believe your only about 5min away from me.

Just made a short trip to Malibu area for some beach camping and the new trans cooler worked bitchen. Never saw temps above 190. And it was flipping hot too boot. Would recomend this as an upgrade to everybody.
