Alright, so I got the stereo all done in the boat.
450 watt amp
Sub
4spaekers
Head
...I'm only running 1 Optima Blue top, Is it completely necessary to have another battery. I wont be running it a lot with the boat turned off but, don't wanna end up with a dead battery.
suggestions please....?
:) :) :)

I would at the very minimum want another battery so i could isolate the stereo battery from the starting battery. From that point on, you could see what your battery needs are in regards to stereo use, and add batteries if needed.
In the mean time, I would definately carry a jump start box with you.

Unfortunately, I don't have a jump start box. But Ive got some big jumper cables. :)

I've done that a couple of times. The CD changer seems to be the big drain in my system. Pretty hard to push start a boat! lol I went the jumper box deal since I can use it around the shop in the off season. You can also get a device that goes on the battery terminal & disconects it when the voltage drops to a certain point, leaveing enough to still start the motor. Overton's has em for about 90 bucks.

Your gonna run into trouble pretty quick with 1 battery. I suggest a second Optima with a perko. set it up so you can charge both batteries while running and then switch to one battery for starting and one for the stereo.:)
Nothing worse than being stranded by a battery;)

Im very lazy and dont feel like doing this before I leave this weekend:D
What do you guys think about this method:
I was thinking of letting the stereo run in my driveway for an hour today, then try and fire up the boat. If it starts.. thats great because it wont be left on for more than 1 hour with out the boat on... If it doesnt start I will be putting in the Perko and additional battery.

In the time you let your stereo run you could probably install the perko and extra battery and never have a problem. Why chance it?

LOL....:D Probably the best advice you've ever given.
Call JW, ask nice and I bet he'll overnight you everything you need to get a second battery installed. Not worth taking a chance.

Just giving you a hard time. :D If you need a hand Thursday night...I work in Thousand Oaks(Not sure how far away you are) and can run over and give you a hand with. Hate to see you get stuck out there because of a dead batt. or worse have it die at the "wrong" time and not be able to get it started and drift/crash into something.

The odds are you will be parked near someone with a louder stereo anyway, so just take it out of the boat and don't worry about a battery. :D

To go have fun and go the
"Do nothing tomorrow night route"
you could go buy a portable battery jumper and use that as a back up. It is good to have anyways!

Thanks man!
I have to take my little bro to physical therapy tonight so no go on the install. Family first!;)
So Ill borrow a battery jumper for this weekend. When I get back next week Ill do it. Just for shits and giggles I turned the stereo on last night for 2 hours (pissed off my neighbors) while I was cleaning out the garage. The boat fired up. So I put charger to it and I had 78% battery left after 2 hours of runing. So hopefully Ill be cool, and if not I have the jumper. :hammer2:
On another note.. I went and got those mud flaps I asked you about a while ago. They work great! I think I might go to a truck stop and buy some cool trucker girl flaps to replace the stock flaps with.:D :D

No we just cancled, had a few houses rented in the Keys with a bunch of our friends for this weekend but work is going crazy so I figured I better stay close. We're finishing up a $150 mil project that is supposed to be done June 20th and we have a lot of work and OSHPD isn't helping. I can't ask my guys to work this weekend if I'm not willing to, so we'll be out next weekend and then again for the regatta hopefully....
We'll have to catch up out there sometime, I want a ride in that rocket ship:D

Work always has to come 1st. The pay off is greater and it only makes the next vacation better. I've canceled my last two river trips because I was neck deep in work. I'm stoked that I'm finally getting up.
Theres a ride and a cold one with your name on it;) :D

Im sure you were all expecting to hear my dead batter stories....me too...lol....
So I would beach the boat around 1 or 2. The girls blasted the stereo the whole time until around 5 or 6. (when the seadoos ran outta gas):D :D
The boat fired right up every time, not one dead battery. So I guess I'll stick with the one battery, it seems to work just great for my use.
Thanks for all your advice and help guys...And thanks Don for the jump start box...for the just in case. :)

a 450watt amp shouldnt really be enough to drain your batt. in any less than 4 hours assuming that its 100% at the start. A 2nd batt. is REALLY nice to have though too. and also, if you dont want to manually switch between the batteries everytime you float with just the stereo they do make a thing that will run on both batts. to charge them while the engine is running and it will automatically switch to one batt. when the engine is turned off.
I don't do much floating because the seadoos like to spin cirlces around me and flood my boat.
