FYI, there's a 700 acre fire by Hirz Bay which is on the McCloud arm of Shasta Lake. If anyone is heading that way this weekend there will be a LOT of smoke in the air. The other arms of the lake shoud be OK.

Thanks for the heads up. We're staying up the Sac arm but usually take a fishing trip or two up the McCloud.

We are launching from Holiday Harbor Friday morning, is the fire moving north or south? Is it contained yet?
Thanks for the info.

Yeah, were kind of screwed as we rent Dekas Rock campground every memorial day, which is the next large group campground north (towards fire) of Hirz bay. I think the Aqua Devils are still undecided on what the game plan is.

we thought about checking out Hirz Bay but reservation sites say it's closed for the 2007 season due to construction.

Here's the latest on the fire from the local Redding paper and a link to Redding.Com. The fire is about 11 to 12 miles north of Holiday so it should be OK, but some what smokey at times. It will depend on the wind or lack of in the area

Boaters wanting to use the Hirz Bay boat ramp at Lake Shasta this weekend face delays of up to an hour because of an 815-acre fire burning seven miles northeast of the McCloud Bridge Campground.
Lake users are encouraged to use alternative spots, such as the Packers Bay and Antlers boat ramps, while Hirz Bay Campground is used as the Bolli Fire command post, Shasta-Trinity National Forest spokesman Mike Odle said.
