I am sure I will build up the motor someday but for now if it aint broke...

Cheapest and easiest way out of having to replace points.

I have the same engine... 1978. I just replaced my distributor with a mallory breakerless. Works great.

Pertronix is a quick and easy solution. You can also get an Ford electronic distributor from your local parts store or bone yard. Then you'll need a 'box' (MSD, Mallory, etc.) to run it. MSD dist's and the elec Ford dist's are basically the same. I'm sure the engine would like the added pop of a box and electronic dist.
