hey Guys,
OK I have had the flattie out several times now and as it is my first V-drive i have no idea what I have to do as far as maintaining the gear box. I see a fill hole, and some braided lines going to the propellor shaft.
it is a split case with a in and out handle. 73' Eliminator.

The braided lines are water for cooling, the fill hole is also the level hole for gear oil, just make sure it has oil up to that point, we use valvoline 85w non synthetic gear oil, and have never had any problems, I think casale recommends some type of Redline Synthetic gear oil now, Mitch might be on here to tell you what exactly to run, or someone else probably knows as well.

Thanks for the info. I suspected that the lines were cooling, but wasn't sure on the oil. Tommy:D

The fill hole is not the level hole. The level hole is on the backside of the rear case about 3 inches up from the bottom. If you fill it to the level of the fill plug it will puke oil out of the vent. Just my .02.

Ryan,
Thought we'd see you at Red Bluff this past weekend...
What's going on with the boat??

Should have clarified that, it is marked in the casting 'Oil Level' the one up higher is the fill. Figured it was self explanatory.

Mike, we moved to las vegas the end of December. I am running the arena at the South Point hotel casino on the southern end of the strip. A fricken horse show kept us from going to red bluff. I am hoping to make it to the world finals if not somewhere earlier. Ryan
