Just wondering how many are running SB's in their jet and what kinds of power people are getting out of them. At first simple explanation was thinking bigger=better. But like with a mild comp cam that I'm cranking out a so far reliable est. 320hp. So I'm thinking for less money over moving "up" into a BBC, I can get close to 400hp and a few more rpm's over the winter. I want to move a little each season, this one happy in the 60's mph range, next will be in the low 70's and the following may move up into another hull, may also get into BBC's to go into 80's. My performance knowledge is more geared towards European cars, so my opinion is probably useless..... I dont think for reliable marine power a small block is the way to go above near realistic 6K'+ rpm's and near 400hp+. Last evolution believe my slow ups in speed will be good for racing!!!!!!!
I'm also interested to see how many have SB's and what kinds of numbers are you seeing?

Not many small blocks around here(unless you are talking about aluminum boats). With 400 hp Id say you will have a hard time getting to 5k rpm unless its a B impeller, even then it may be some work...(I dont have the chart in front of me so its hard to be precise...)
If you are thinking of changing boats in the future(but still a jetboat), make sure the next one has a BBC or BBF. General rule of thumb for a mild V performance boat is that it takes 700hp to do 90, and 800hp to do 100, so 600 should get you to 80....Assuming the pump is blueprinted and the hull is in good shape.

I have a 1988 Carribean 16" with a 350 chevy pretty much stock with a comp cam made for jet boats nothing special. Berkeley 12JE with an "A" impeller. If had to guess i would say it runs in the low 50's. it pulls a skier out of the hole with ease. i thought about building this motor into something nice. Then decided it would be cheeper to build a big block in the long run. So I have since sht-canned the whole idea of going fast in this boat. Oh yeah. RPM's 4200 not matter what i try to do.

My cousin has a '69 wriedt stinger that has a 350 chevy in it. Pump is a 12JB-B. Its not a screaming fast boat, but has served as a ski/lake/river/family boat its entire life and doesnt seem under powered. Even pulling a large adults out of the water.

I do. In a Eagle 19' Spot boat. It goes 85 mph with 550 hp, 434 ci.
But I think you should buy a 455 ci Olds and get your pump blue printed. Then you can go 60 mph for 5 seconds until your oil pressure drops to 5 psi. J/K.
Go to Eagle/Outlaw Performance boating to find out about small blocks in jet boats.

I'll possibly do a weekend in Kelowna at some point this summer. So do you Alberta peeps ever get down into the B.C interior? Love to see the above pic in action, she sweet..... I'm planning my small block build for this winter, so give me some specs, please?
My cousin is working Lake Okanagan with the RCMP marine unit this summer, so can get us out of most trouble........... :D

prolly lots of our boats in BC but not too sure where, post where you're gonna be on our forum you may get some hits, they are around for sure.
That boat is in Red Deer and prolly won't see much use till it sells. owner has it very nicely cleaned up and i was in it last weekend for a blast. Motor just came off the dyno and its strong! Didn't have a GPS with us but felt like high 70's perhaps 80's
He's selling to buy a bigger Eagle that his wife can tolerate haha

Hey Zudnic, we have a local guy on our river who has actually gone back to small blocks from big. He never had luck with them and likes the idea of all those cheap parts. He's run 327s, 350s, 400s, most with good results. He can actually pass a few BB boats. ;)
I ran a small block Olds (403) for years before going big block. Actually the 403 was a far more turn key setup. The 455 has needed lots of tweaking to run reliably and (so far) has only gained me a few mph.

I'm starting to like it and seems to be lots of less expensives bolt on stuff. Lost some speed today, just me and my Brother in it. Full tank in the bow 15 gals, me 180 and him closer to 200lbs. 59mph GPS, should'nt have used GPS liked 64 mph better....... :(
More people on the Columbia today over labor day... 3 other jets and 2 hot lake lice chicks followed us for a bit...... :)

You small blocks make me sick! Lol jk.:D
My boat with a big block runs 54gps... and that's over 100 cubic inches from a 350! Then again I dont want to know how fast it would go with a small block...
