I have been looking at Cats for awhile now and need some help. Does anybody know anything about Commander Cats? I am fairly new to the Hot Boat scene so any help would be nice. I also have looked at some eliminators and a DCB.

It will upset some people but oh well.....in terms of overall construction quality you're comparing apples to generators.....

So are you saying that the commander boat is not built as well as the others?

Yes...that's not to say that Commander is a bad boat...but it is not a DCB or an Eliminator...

Yeah, I haven't heard too many good things either...but that was years ago. I thought they were able to pull out of the "reputation" though....guess not.

What are ya looking for in a Cat? DCB is on the top if your buying this side of Arizona. But if ya got guts and want performance and ride, do yourself a favor and get a hold of Redline boats. Very nice single 26.

Wow. I have probably known at least 50-75 people over the years that have owned or currently own a Commander. I can't recall one person ever saying anything negative about their boat. In fact, the only place I've ever heard anything bad is on ***boat.
And, FTR, I have never owned a Commander.
I was in the market about 10 years ago and they were a consideration, along with Eliminator, Ultimate, Cole, Advantage, and Ultra. The more I talked around, the things I heard were things I did not want to deal with from a brand new boat. I'm not bashing them, thats just what I heard at the time. I've read alot about them since and had figured they had "shaken" the reputation they had at the time. Thats all I was saying.
I ended going with the Ultra and got 10 great years out of it....and sold it for almost as much as I paid. ;)

Well, to be honest, that is the one that I am looking at this weekend if she takes it to Commander. My wife likes the open bow and I like the color scheme. Has everything that I want in a Cat but I am only concerned about the 496. I was looking for something that will do about 80-85mph. Not a deal breaker by any means.

I have a 2006 Conquest Boss Cat 28 foot. It only has 20 hours on it. It has a 525hp Mercruiser and all the options possible. Importantly unlike a DCB and Eliminator the insurance is only 750.00 a year. Paid $106,000 for it plus a $5000.00 stereo and DVD system in it. Have it listed for $85k in SPAM area.

There is no way my boat will hit 80-85. I can only hope for little chop and it will make 65, but definately not loaded down. It will run a solid 60 with all of the stuff I keep in it along with a family of five. For me, insurance was a big deterrent. If i built it with the 525, it cost me well over 2500 per year, but with the HO I only pay 900. I was a good trade off for us.

Redline does not make a 26. I am assuming you mean Revolution Boats? And yes it is a beautiful boat. The Redlines are made in Vegas and are pushing 30 feet. I don't think you can pick up a new Revolution for under 100k with a 525. I do know that they were selling that pretty white and grey demo for about 95k.
Dirtracer here on the forums has a nice 26 DCB with whackers for under 90k in the Spam section. It will run 105 anyday and is a real clean basic boat. I would have bought that boat if I had the room right now.
I rode in Kilrtoys 26 DCB with twin OBs this last weekend at 97 in some pretty rough stuff and it was great. I would have felt comfortable at even faster speeds in that boat (over a 100).

check out my Howard in the spam section ..... you wont find a better cat at this price. come out to folsom sunday and Ill take ya for a spin, so at least you will be able to have an idea.... and my howard will ride better then any same size dcb or elim in big water.......... such as the delta....
I can conform this as I have been in all three of the boats in question and bought the Howard. I have ZERO hope at 60-70mph I can't say the same for the ones I rode in.

sounds like it will do a lot more than that. How is the maintenance on it. I dont want to be spending what UJ spends on his ultra. lol
UJ was a unique thing.. he just bought that POS because of how it looked. he had no idea what he was getting into.. Peto built my motor and it runs flawlessly..... I think ive seen ur boat at folsom, it looks familiar. if your there come say hi and ill take ya for a quick ride and hopefully we can get 80 mph out of the grocery getter:D

Negative. The boat I'm talking about is a 26 Redline (model name) built by Revolution Performance Marine out of Harppersville AL. Also the one I was talking about Doug Wright did the CNC and was in on the design.
The one also I'm talking about is white and grey, and 4 to 6 months back was tested the fastest single with a 525. It took a while to get there, but that one is 26ft. If it was built in Vegas, I don't know why my buddie is flying back to AL. on Tuesday to test drive it and most likely buy it and bring it back to Havasu, but again maybe I'm wrong.

I have a 33 Eliminator Daytona for sale that is immaculate. Selling it less motors but with everything included to simply bolt motors in. Asking $85k less motors with drives, props and all hardware. This boat is a 9.9 out of 10.
If interested give me an email address and I will send pictures or call me at 714 777 6546. You can see some pictures in the SPAM section, look for 33 Daytona.

Sorry, but you said Redline boats..;) ;) ;) Redline, does NOT make a 26 like I stated...... But if ya got guts and want performance and ride, do yourself a favor and get a hold of Redline boats. Very nice single 26.
Redlines # is in ***boat mag.

Give me a break, your the biggest thrasher there is. You come to my house drink my Goose, piss in my pool, leave your thrash everywhere and split. Next time bring your dog over and have him shit everywhere, and the trash puzzle will be complete. :D
BTW, talk to your buddie about his boat pricing so I can get on with my next build. I think he thinks his RC28 is as good as a 32 Skater, there prices are about the same. Peace out:D

LOL. Why would I want to trash my own stuff when I can trash my friends? :)
Let's take the new whacker boat out when it is done. Should be done soon. :)
What does it cost compared to say a DCB 32?

John.
06-01-2007, 08:22 PM
Hey BigTicket. I think that DCB makes some really cool boats. if i was in the market right now, I'd look to get a DCB. If I was getting a deckboat, it would be a Trident.
Talk to Jory about cats. If you're thinking about big power, I definitely recommend seeing if Jory can check out the motor and drive for you. Might want to check into insurance too as it can get pricey. make sure to get something you really like with a cool gel. hope the cat hunt goes well for ya.

Man on the Run: Yes, BlownCarrera is sandbagging just a
bit. If you go for the ride, bring goggles and go to the restroom before you go! 98 Vector 21 was also sandbagging. Howard and Cobra--2 very nice
cats.
Go drive the ones that YOU can afford and that you like the
looks of. Then try to think of what YOUR needs are, are you simply going to cruise in it from one place to another. Are you going to be in smooth or rough water or some combination, how many people do you usually take, will you be trying to ski or tube or wakeboard, how fast do you want to go?
Will the boats plane quickly, will they turn without hooking or sliding or washing out, do they lean the wrong way in a turn, does the boat porpoise alot, does it go fast enough for YOU? Some or all of these may
not matter to you or maybe some do.
I know alot of people with high dollar skaters and spectre cats that run like
crazy when the water is rough and ugly and they glide across the rough stuff like nothing, on the other hand, they may porpoise a bit inthe smooth
stuff when it's like glass. But they obviously will accept that small trade off
for the thrill they get when they're going 120 mph across the nasty stuff.
For some that is a good trade off (I like it!) but others may not .
Figure out what YOU want and go find it on the demo ride.
But after driving it, you should be
able to answer all those questions and give each a priority from 1 to 10,
or something like that. Some simply buy the one they like the looks of and
that's a high priority for most but YOU should be able to figure it all out for yourself in about 2-3 minutes on the water.
Remember the first time that someone gave you a ride in
a Ferrari or a 911 turbo? It only took a few seconds and you immediately sensed that something special was going on even though you may not have understood much about them.
Remember the first time that you saw a Pantera or a new
Lamborghini or an Enzo? You didn't sit around and analyze them, you probably went WOW!!!! look at that and your heart started racing!
Lots of good advice on here though. And much of it from
some very sincere people too. It's not like 40 years ago
when you had to worry about boats falling apart etc, you're
looking at some of the best boats in the world.
