Just curious if any of you know a practical (and inexpensive) way to lighten the overall weight of a 2004 Optimax 225. I believe it weighs approximately 600+ pounds stock. I've been told there isn't, but wanted to check with the Outboard authorities here before giving up. Thanks in advance.

If you do the flywheel mod you can save 4 pounds, does that help?

You're trying to push a rope.
The OptiMax isn't about being light. It's about fuel efficiency and low emissions. If you want light and powerful, go with a 225 BlackMax.

pull that jack plate off and have a freind with a mill "lighten" it up for ya...
after seeing some outboard drag boat motors, they drill holes in everything
to remove weight...............

I met you last summer when Barry, Rich (Mandelon), Ari and Avengerbabe were out. We were all up at the big sandbar with my kids. Which story did you hear about my motor? There are several. LOL. :D

You're trying to push a rope.
Is that akin to pissing up a rope?
I wouldn't drill out a jackplate to loose weight on a lake boat.

I shot holes in a boat once, does that count??
